Promotions Department


Horsham Rural City Council’s Promotions Department is committed to supporting tourism within the municipality and recognises the value of events and festivals to the region.


Twice yearly, Council accepts applications for funding sponsorship and to promote local events and festivals.


The Promotions Department recognises that major events provide an economic injection into the community by increasing visitation to the region and increasing awareness of the region.

Helping to keep the municipality safe


The Regulatory department issued 635 Fire Prevention Notices and 11 Infringement fi nes for non compliance for the 2010/2011 fi re period.

Flood Recovery Activities: To assist tourism operators with recovery from the January 2011 fl oods, a number of marketing activities were undertaken including co-ordinating the Grampians – Wartook Valley Open Weekends.


Marketing Activities:


A variety of other marketing activities were undertaken to promote the regions local produce markets and major sporting events.


A “Lifestyle” television and radio campaign was developed to support the Natimuk, Wartook Valley and Horsham communities in attracting people to visit the area and live in the region.

Support: Signifi cant event support was provided in hosting events which included the above State Junior Volleyball Championships and the Australia Day celebrations and State Junior Motocross championships.

2011 Victorian Country Volleyball Championship held in Horsham


Horsham hosted the 2011 Victorian Country Volleyball Championship during the June 2011 long weekend. The championship is based on a rotation system between fi ve major associations. The 2011 event involved 240 competitors, support staff , volunteers and a number of event organisers, all contributing to an amazing weekend of competitive volleyball.
