Electronic Rostering with Mobile Phones for the Home & Community Care Program
The Aged & Disability Services section implemented Electronic Phone rostering enabling a more effi cient service for our Home & Community Care unit.
Horsham Rural City Council was the fi rst of 25 HACCPAC software program customers in the greater Victoria area to implement Mobile Phone Electronic timesheets by Vada Computing.
The program commenced on 16th August, 2010 with discussions
with Vada Computing relating to the implementation approach, planning and change management strategies. Council’s IT department worked with the computing company and the Home Care department especially with the evaluation of the appropriate mobile phones to be purchased, information and the support with training.
The Home Care offi ce staff provided the training for the electronic rostering to the Direct Care staff at the end of October 2010.
All 38 Home Carers are now working with the mobile devices in client’s homes. The response from the clients has been positive. The Direct Care staff worked with tandem rosters (paper base and electronic) to ensure that the electronic process was current.
Home Care Staff can all see the benefi ts from the new system. There has been a streamlining of payroll & rostering processes, staff are regularly updating their rosters as well as the offi ce having an update on what work, the staff have completed.
The staff are to be commended for the professional approach they displayed with the successful implementation of this project.

Recovery from Fire
The Remlaw Fire Commemorative Garden was opened in June 2011 at a site adjacent to the Wimmera River.
A local Community Recovery Committee was established in July 2009 and chose the site along the river for its tranquillity and easy access to residents and visitors. The garden and artwork was selected to acknowledge the people who volunteered and supported the response, relief and recovery eff orts following the fi re.
The sculpture, by Wimmera artist Donal Molloy-Drum is based on the natural elements of fi re, water, fl ora and fauna. The image of the bird is the actual shape formed by the Remlaw Fire and is in scale with the Wimmera River and outlying lakes. The picture is fabricated on stainless steel, while the bird, river and lakes, fl owers and emu prints are made from brass and copper.
