SCHOOLS URGED TO BUY ENERGY SAVING COVERS Schools in Leicestershire are being encouraged to apply for funding to save energy and money by Leicestershire County Council. The use of swimming pool covers is being recommended to all schools in the county as a simple, effective measure to kick start the process. Schools can apply for an interest-free loan to fund energy-saving projects, which is then re-paid using the money they save. Projects will include energy-efficient lighting and loft insulation.

‘CONCRETE CANCER’ THREATENS POOL A run-down Lancashire swimming pool at the centre of a row over funding has been diagnosed with ‘concrete cancer’. A survey of the facility – Haslingden Swimming Pool – said it needed ‘significant funding’ if it is to remain open after falling into disrepair. The plan to spend £3.2m on a new pool is now being carefully considered.

Jamie Adams, Managing Director said: “In carrying out research among our customers we found that many were struggling to compete with increased competition from less reputable online suppliers and discount retailers based outside the UK. “We wanted to do something that would benefit the whole UK industry and have invested heavily in

identifying credible solutions to the problems faced. What we have discovered is that the same tools and techniques can be just as effectively used to promote the interests of UK showrooms as well as their online counterparts.

“By selling the lifestyle aspect of pool ownership to a wider customer base we will be in a strong position to connect new consumers with their local pool dealerships, who have a wealth of knowledge and expertise to satisfy their needs,” he continued. The three new sites are still in their early days and will continue to be developed and improved. All the sites make use of the social networking, social media and search marketing theory and practices, building in links with popular sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
