WELCOME to the House of Beni – a shape- shifting, solid-state wall-of-dance, sound and also the title of the imminent debut album from Sydney producer and DJ, Beni. Beni is musical maestro of many guises.
To the uninitiated – over the past fi ve years, Beni has traipsed the globe with vagabond disco pirates the Bang Gang Deejays, popped out schtonking singles with (the now defunct) Riot in Belgium, crafted tunes for Kitsune and remixed for Tiga, Digitalism, Fischerspooner, La Roux and Alex Gopher. Now signed with Modular Recordings, Beni
recently turned all his focus towards his debub long player. Zig-zagging between New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Berlin, Tokyo and a rickety farmhouse in the French countryside, Beni has assembled guests from across the globe to lend their distinctive musical fl avours to this party.
Vocal contributions come from the likes of Sam Sparro, Nomi (Hercules and Love Aff air), Prince Terrence (Hussle Club) and Mattie Safer (ex-the Rapture) as well as production from local luminaries Nicky Nighttime (Van She) and Kim Moyes (the Presets). The debut single It’s a Bubble is currently riding high on the club charts the world over and has even started its own dance craze. DJ reactions from San Francisco to Ibiza have been nothing short of ridiculous. To celebrate the arrival of House of Beni, the man himself will be bringing his DJ skills to Newcastle next month. With mystery local and international friends in town – who do you think might join him? You’ll just need to be there to fi nd out. Catch Beni when he plays at the King Street Hotel on Friday, October 7.
