Sing for Fun

With the summer now upon us it seems that once again many groups are stopping for a well deserved break. If you have some free time on a Monday evening Philip Ashley will once again be holding singing workshops for anyone who would like to try this fun hobby, or is even an accomplished singer but would just like to have some fun.

So if you have ever wanted to have a go at singing, but could not afford private lessons, or lack the confidence to join one of the amateur dramatic groups in the area, then “Sing For Fun” could be what you are looking for.

Musical Director Philip Ashley will be holding group singing workshops throughout the summer months. The workshops are open to both experienced singers and beginners, from the age of 12 upwards. There is no upper age limit and last year the oldest member was 75.

Philip explained that “the aim of the singing workshops is to develop each of the members voices through group singing. Nobody is singled out to sing solo, unless they specifically volunteer to do so. This year will also be focusing on performance techniques, but once again the main aim of the workshops is for everyone to have fun”.

The type of music Philip plans to introduce to the group is very light, with numbers ranging from the pop charts of the 1960’s to musical theatre, and some other quirky fun numbers.

Participants will be taught how to sing in harmonies with each other, as well as in unison, plus voice exercises to improve breathing, voice projection and diction. At the end of the summer there will be a concert and anybody who has attended the workshops is welcome to take part, but this is not compulsory. This concert will be helping to raise funds for the Friends of The Children of EMAUS.

Workshops will be held on Monday evenings from July 11th at 7pm until 9.30pm, at the Bar La Torre in Benissa. The price of the workshops is 3 euros per week.
