Corral Chatter By Becky Riley.

There has been quite a bit going on since the last issue of The Rider! I hope that everyone is enjoying the spring weather and getting ready for show season.

On March 26, the WHAO judges were invit- ed to a clinic at the Orangeville Fair Grounds. The morning was spent going through the rule- book. As judges, they know the rulebook from front to back and were able to suggest changes and updates for the next edition of the rulebook. The afternoon was spent going over new scoring systems for classes. While watching videos, the judges were able to practice scoring and discuss their results. As an exhibitor sitting there and trying to score along with them, it confirmed the fact that I’m glad that I’m not a judge! In addition to the discussions, the Judges Committee also conducted interviews for new judge applicants as well as promoting a Jr judge to a Sr judge. Congratulations to the new WHAO Jr. Judges: Kris Simpson, Jamie Kuhl, Michelle Jones, Tracey Patterson, Glen Patterson and Megan D’Allaire. Promoted to Sr. Judge is Jim Teed.

Knowlton Ridge Equestrian Centre in Powassan will be hosting the first WHAO Point Award show of 2011. This will be a two day show at their beautiful facility. They feature indoor and outdoor pens, permanent stalling and camping. I wasn’t able to make it up there last year, but I hear that it is a wonderful place to show. There is a good variety of classes with full payback. Stalls are reasonably priced at $30/night if you are staying overnight and $20/day if you would just like to use a stall for the day. Information can be found on our web- site

Every year we say this, and will continue to say it until we’re blue in the face! Sponsorships are critical to the existence of all clubs and asso- ciations. Without the support of Sponsors and volunteers, we would not be able to have the great shows that we have. Thank you to all of our past and present sponsors, we literally couldn’t do it without you. The WHAO has many different levels of sponsorships and you can find them on our website or from any of the board of directors. Whether you are able to donate $50, $500 or $5000, your sponsorship goes to help a great association.

We are currently working out the details on a very exciting show at the new REACH Huron in Clinton Ontario. This is tentatively scheduled for August 6 & 7. If you haven’t been to REACH yet, you should plan on attending that weekend. It is a beautiful facility with lots of

exciting additions planned for the future. Not only is it a beautiful show facility, it is also a satellite location for University of Guelph Ridgetown Campus, there are training rooms, labs, media labs and there are even dorms! I can’t wait to show there. Not only will this be a WHAO Point Award Show, we are working with MWHS to co-approve the August 7th show! As soon as I have all the confirmed details they will be listed in The Rider, on and our face- book page.

Trout Creek is once again hosting a WHAO Point Award Show on August 27 & 28. Thank you to Penny and the Ransom family for working their tails off to put this show on. It is so much fun to travel up there and spend the weekend showing and having fun with fellow competitors. The pen is beautiful for both performance classes and games classes. Definitely plan to attend!

Did you know that 2012 is the 60th Anniversary of the Western Horse Association of Ontario? 60 years of fun, friendly, family com- petition. Do you have any stories that you would like to share about WHAO over the last 60 years? Send them to me!

Enjoy Spring and we’ll see you all at the

first show! -------------

The WHAO is proud to to have six new Jr. Judges to add to our list of judges. We held our annual Judges Clinic on Mar. 26,2011, and these six horsepeople are now able to represent the WHAO as Jr. Judges if you are looking for some- one to judge for you please contact any of there people. WHAO is trying to promote the highest standard of judging to all saddle clubs, fairs, etc. who hold horse shows. We offer training and guidance to all our Jr. Judges and are confident they will do a good job for you.

Thank You, WHAO Judges Committee -------------
