Grand River Agricultural Society Donates $15,000 toward Youth Program Partnering Equine Guelph And 4-H

Some of the top- ics youth will be able to discover online include: caring for horses and functional anatomy. Grand River’s man- ager, Ted Clarke comments, “The Grand River Agricul- tural Society has supported Equine Guelph and local 4-H for several years. Both have unique strengths and this combined initiative should make each program stronger while providing a great opportunity for both rural and urban youth to learn more about horses.”

Gayle Ecker, Director of Equine Guelph thanks Grand River Agricultural Society for enabling this pro- gram to get off the ground, “This is the start of a long term program that we believe will have a major impact on youth who are interested in educational opportunities and a future working with horses.” Additional funding will be required to complete this innovative online com- munity program. Performance Handlers visit OVC

On April 4th 2011, Students from the “Performance Horse Handlers Course” at the REACH campus of Ridgetown College were treated to a field trip to Equine Guelph and the OVC. Instructors Doug Nash and Sharon McMaster report the class was very impressed by the future opportunities displayed. One Participant commented, “It was an awesome experience, seeing first-hand how and what it takes to operate such a facility and the many opportunities available for careers addressing the welfare of Horses. Equine Guelph was an amazing source of information regarding career opportunities, courses and knowledge as well as where to find them. The live demon- strations on Anatomy and the use of Heart Monitors and lectures provided by Equine Guelph was the best part”!!! Thanks to Dr. Jeff Thomason, Dr. Kim McGurrin and Equine Guelph director Gayle Ecker for hosting this informa- tive excursion.
