MAY 2011 THE RIDER /33

North East Regional Rodeo a Success

By Rebecca Riegling

REACH Huron was a very busy place the week- end of April 1 – 3, 2011. The Ontario High School Rodeo Association hosted the North East Regional Rodeo. Competitors from Ontario, Michigan and Saskatchewan travelled to Clinton, ON for three days of rodeo.

Rawhide Rodeo Company produced the rodeo supplying world class livestock to chal- lenge the competitors. Joe Scully, ProRodeo MC announced the results and posted them to the OHSRA Facebook page. There were competitors in every event, and some of the OHSRA Alumni came back to take a turn. Points were earned by the competitors to go towards their scholarship fund. We are already planning next year’s event which will be just as spectacular.

Gist Buckles were awarded to the winners of

each event. Todd Sloan saddles were awarded to the All-Around Senior Cowboy – Buck Moen; the

All-Around Senior Cowgirl – Tamara Weese; the All-Around Junior Cowboy – Logan Donaldson and the All-Around Junior Cowgirl – Meghan Ebert.

Special thanks go out to our sponsors, Nuco Inc. (Scott Gray and Family); Steelwood Truss (Terry Cronin and Family) and Granton Trailers for their continued support. Thank you also to the OHSRA Board of Directors and parents who made this event a possibility. We couldn’t do it without you.

Congratulations to all the successful bidders in the silent auction. We have a wide variety of items, some of which were very creative and unique. Thanks to everyone, as we made about $1800.00

The Ontario High School Rodeo Finals will be held May 14, 2011 at TLC Quarter Horses, Hillsburg, ON.

Rodeo – the toughest sport in High School!

AQHA releases standing committee reports

The American Quarter Horse Journal — In many cases, AQHA rule changes are the result of recommendations from AQHA members or the various AQHA standing committees. Once approved at convention by the respec- tive AQHA standing committees, the rule changes are then approved by the AQHA Board of Direc- tors and reviewed by the AQHA Executive Com- mittee. The Executive Committed has the final

word on all rule changes except changes to the Association’s bylaws and any rules and regula- tions pertaining to the registration of horses. AQHA standing committee reports are avail- able to the public.

AQHA news and information is a service of AQHA publications. For more information on The American Quarter Horse Journal or Ameri- ca’s Horse, visit www.aqha.com
