Timothy “Tim” Hyatt is a last minute write-in candidate for the Erwin School District.
By Clint Parker Leicester resident Timothy
“Tim” Hyatt would like to give voters a choice when it comes to a seat for his old high school alma mater. So the lifelong native is running as a write-in candidate for the Erwin District Board of Education. “I am not running against any-
one, but I think there ought to be a choice for the voters,” said Hyatt of his last-minute, first-time run for a public office. Te Leader recently did an arti-
cle on his grandson Jeremy Suttles who completed a two-week mili- tary training at Freedom Alliance in Virginia and is a current stu- dent at Erwin High School. He also has a granddaughter, Jessica Suttles, at Leicester Elementary School. “I have two good reasons to see the public schools succeed

in their mission,” said Hyatt. One of the things Hyatt would
like to see if elected is guide- lines for fundraising along with a discloser on where the funds are going. He said it seems like a lot of pressure is put on students these days to raise money for the school. Hyatt is a graduate of Erwin
and Asheville-Buncombe Techni- cal Community College and holds
a state law enforcement certificate as a reserve officer for Buncombe County. He is also a former volun- teer with the Rape Crisis Center, a former Sunday School director, missionary and associate pastor. According to the Buncombe
County Board of Election, voters interested in voting for Hyatt will have to write in his name and fill in the circle before casting a bal- lot.
