Woodfin Elementary welcomes fall

and festivities at the school. Nelson Bridges’s 1965 Mustang was the kids’


favorite, Jamie O’Mary’s 2008 Mus- tang GT was the fan’s favorite and Ray Wilson’s 2009 Corvette con- vertible was the principal’s choice. Principal Cynthia Porter said


feedback was positive. Tirty-five entrants participated in the car show and the festival raised $2,500, al- though both figures were lower than in the past.


Tis week’s Hero of the Week is former Weaverville Town Manager


Mike Morgan. Morgan retired Oct. 22 after more than 18 years in his position. During this time, the town built new facilities such as new fire and public works departments as well as a new municipal building. In addition, the town has received numerous awards, such as the Government Finance Officers Association Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for 14 consecutive years. He was recently recipi- ent of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, a distinguished award given by the governor of North Carolina. Morgan will now teach a class at Western Carolina University about budgeting after 33 years in public service. Morgan’s accomplishments during his time with the town are the reason he is this week’s Hero of the Week.
