Cyber Sec Visionaries

These champions target our unseen enemies and keep our nation strong.

by Frank McCoy, fmccoy@ccgmag.com T 68 USBE&IT

he cyber warriors USBE&IT profiles work for the federal government, private sector, and nonprofits commanding forces at the front lines against relentless enemies. During the first half of 2010, there were 30,000 “incidents

of malicious cyber activity” directed at the Department of Defense; simultaneously, attackers also targeted businesses and consumers. A November 2010 study by M86 Security, a content security specialist, reported upticks in malware using email, tweets, and Facebook updates. Our digital defenders hail from a gamut of backgrounds. Many, but not all, have earned a string of security credentials: CCP, CISM, or CISSP. Their ranks include a former child prodigy programmer who defends Apple Inc., FBI special agents, an IRS cyber security expert, a National Security Agency director, a cloud comput- ing wizard, and a senior advisor for cyber policy in the office of the U.S. secretary of defense. They stand guard, so we don’t have to.
