Rear Admiral Carodine is a 1982 graduate of the U. S. Naval Academy and earned a Master of Science in Informa- tion Systems degree from the University of Texas at Dallas. He affiliated with the Navy Reserve in 1989 and mobilized in 1990 with NR Carrier Group 770 to sup- port Carrier Group 7/Battle Force Zulu. During combat operations, he served as the Force Over-the-Horizon Track coordinator during operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm in USS Ranger in the Northern Arabian Gulf. His Navy Reserve staff tours include: chief of staff, U.S. Fleet Forces Command Maritime Operations Center and assistant chief of staff for Information Technology, Naval Reserve Readiness Command South. His numerous command tours include: NR Sealift Logistics Command, Atlantic; Military Sealift Command Expeditionary Port Unit 113; NR USS Princeton; NR Mine Warfare Command Detachment 109; and NR USS Sentry. In his last civil- ian occupation, RDML Carodine served as the director of enterprise information requirements and data analysis for Health Care Service Corporation, a consortium of Blue Cross Companies serving Illi- nois, Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico based in Chicago. He is also a published fiction author. Working under the pen name of Ken Carodine, he writes novels centered on naval personnel and technol- ogy in today’s world.

Vice Admiral Curtis is the third com- mander of Naval Surface Forces and the 15th commander of the Pacific Fleet’s Naval Surface Force. He is responsible for manning, equipping, training and maintaining more than 160 surface force ships based around the world. He is as- sisted in that task by his staff and more than 50 major commands and support units of the force. A native of Chicago, he graduated from the Naval Academy in 1976 where he earned a bachelor’s degree in political science. Following commissioning, he attended the Sur- face Warfare Basic School in Newport, Rhode Island. VADM Curtis served in a variety of sea and shore assignments. His command tours include USS Wain- wright, USS Donald B. Beary, Destroyer Squadron 14, Naval Surface Group 2 and commander, Carrier Strike Group 11/ Nimitz Strike Group. His shore assign- ments include the U.S. Naval Academy as brigade officer; the Bureau of Naval Personnel as senior year group detailer; chief of Naval Operations Aegis/DDG-51 Program Office; senior military assistant in the Office of Naval Warfare; executive assistant and naval aide to the 71st and 72nd secretaries of the Navy; and Navy Europe Programs, Strategy and Policy, and director, Transformation Activities for Commander, U.S. Naval Forces, Europe–6th Fleet. His most recent as- signment was as the 51st commander, Naval Surface Force, Atlantic and deputy commander, Naval Surface Forces, where he served as chief readiness officer for the Surface Warfare Enterprise. He holds a Master of Science degree in administra- tion from Central Michigan University and is also a graduate of the National De- fense University and the NATO Defense College Senior Course.


Rear Admiral Gay assumed his current assignment in 2009. Previously, he served as the deputy chairman of the Armed Forces Inauguration Committee, Washington, D.C. from July 2008 until March 2009. He has also served as the 86th commandant of Naval District Washington, and deputy commander of the Joint Force Headquarters, National Capital Region. He assumed his current assignment as commander, Expeditionary Strike Group 3, San Diego, CA in July 2009. Rear Admiral Gay commanded USS Belleau Wood from March 2003 until November 2004, deploying with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit in combat support of operations Iraqi Free- dom and Enduring Freedom. Following this tour, he was assigned as the direc- tor of congressional liaison, U.S. House of Representatives. Other assignments include search and rescue pilot in the High Sierra Mountains, SH-60B aircraft instructor pilot and commanding officer of HSL-41—training squadron for all west coast SH-60B pilots and aircrew men. He is a 1980 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. He earned his master’s degree in Financial Management from Troy State University; he is also a 1995 graduate of the U.S. Air War College.
