This October, Syracuse University announced that it had received a two-year $760,000 grant from the Na- tional Science Foundation to fund U.S. citizens interested in studying cyber security and information assurance. The money will fund six graduate students a year for two years through the Scholarships for Service program. The SFS scholarship provides one-year or two-year scholarships that fund 18 credit hours per year of tuition costs and a yearly stipend of $12,000 in return for working for a government agency after graduation. The program is designed to increase and strengthen the cadre of information security professionals in the federal, state, and local agencies in the United States. Since 2003, SU has graduated nearly 50 SFS scholars who are already working in government agen- cies with skills that enable them to work in a range of information assurance man- agement, policy, and systems development positions.
As of January 1, 2010 the Pilot Center for Academic Excellence in Intelligence Studies became The Center for Academic Excellence in Intelligence Studies @ Tennessee State University. This marks the successful completion of the pilot phase and entrance in the continuity phase as an Intelligence Com- munity Center of Academic Excellence.

The Computer Science and Information Technology Department at UDC is the only producer of master’s degrees in computer science at an urban land-grant university in the United States.
CSIT is one of the largest computer science

CSIT students work with the department’s faculty on in- teresting research challenges in various areas spanning da- tabases, algorithms, artificial intelligence, networking and security, software engineer- ing, GIS, and informatics.

Researchers at the
University of Maryland are developing new technolo- gies and security strategies to help establish broad-based cyber security assurance. The new Maryland Cyber Security Center (MC²) will help “connect the dots” in the region’s burgeoning federal and private cyber sector. MC² will draw on exten- sive cyber security research already underway at the university, including wire- less and network security, cryptography, secure pro- gramming, ensuring citizens’ privacy in social networks, cyber supply chain research, attacker behavioral analysis, cyber security policy and economics, and multimedia forensics.
