Three events in one T
he Sleep Event, taking place this November, is an essential desti- nation for anyone involved with the hotel design or hospitality industry. The show comprises three separate elements, an exhi-
bition featuring over 100 of the industry’s finest international suppliers, a conference presenting a selection of leading experts and a prestigious awards ceremony: The European Hotel Design Awards. Three days of everything hotels orientated begins on the evening of
23rd November with The European Hotel Design Awards, taking place at the Lancaster London. These annual awards celebrate the best hotel projects completed within the past twelve months. With thirteen cate- gories, including Conversion of an Existing Hotel Building, Newbuild and Hotel Brand of the Year, recent hotel gems such as the Mandarin Oriental, Spain; Romanos, Greece and Grace Santorini Hotel, entered and design by Divercity Architects, will all have the spotlight shone on them. Closer to home, The Scarlet Hotel, Cornwall, has been shortlist- ed for three awards including the Lobby and Public Areas category and the coveted Sustainability Award. The Scarlet Hotel was entered by Devon based Harrison Sutton Partnership.
Sleep 2010 Exhibition The following day, The Sleep Event Exhibition will begin at the Business Design Centre, Islington A world exclusive live hotel environ- ment will be created by leading interior designers and architects with a bespoke bar, bedrooms, spa and bathrooms all featuring. Elsewhere at the show, the new Innovation Zone will celebrate the industry’s most exciting products with the Product Innovation Awards. The eventual winner, judged by a panel of experts, will be announced on 25th November at the show. For the second year the exhibition will feature a programme of free
seminars, topics include Water Efficiency, Bathrooms: from rational to emotional and an expert panel of operators and designers discussing their favourite hotels from around the globe.
The Sleep Event Conference Running alongside the exhibition is The Sleep Event Conference. This year, it will focus on some of the most exciting European hotel projects to be recently completed, gathering the key decision makers to form exclusive panel sessions discussing each hotel. Highlights include Naushad Jivraj, CEO of Queensway Group, dis-
cussing Tune Hotels’ ‘5 star beds at a 1 star price’ ethos, and Neil L Worrell of Hilton Worldwide and Peter Joehnk of JOI Design Interior Architects revealing the idea behind their new eye-catching project, The Squaire/ Hilton & Hilton Garden Inn Frankfurt. A must-attend session will see Andrew Sangster speak with those
involved with the ambitious £100 million restoration project of the Savoy Hotel, London, including Design Principle Pierre Yves Rochan. As well as budget and luxury hotels, the conference will also look at
