The vibrant, ivory-coloured façade of a new healthcare facility and offices in Cornwall posed no problem for the Renderplas range of coloured PVC-U external render beads. Renderplas was able to provide a decorative and durable solution to match the through-coloured render of the £1.9m Wheal Northey Centre, built by Midas Construction. In addition to enhancing the build- ing’s fresh-looking façade, ivory-coloured

Renderplas PVC-U beading has ensured straight, durable joints, corners and edges on all external rendering. The PVC-U material is scratch resistant and will not discolour over time, so any exposed joints and edges will continue to complement the colour of the facade indefinitely.

Glass and light are the main characteristics of the new service centre in Almere (Holland). Massive automatic sliding doors and a curtain wall with a surface of 1200 m2

guarantee sunlight.

A building, with large glazed surfaces facing south, offers many advantages. However, it can lead to uncomfortable situations like overheating and light reflection. The Renson® Fixscreen® was proposed, the first

screen in the world that is truly wind-resistant and insect proof. This system uses the ingenious zip system of the Fixscreen®-technology, making the screen wind-resistant in every position.

MicroZink provides all the performance benefits of aluminium with the aesthetic appeal of a tradi- tional zinc roof. The coating changes colour and gloss over time in almost exactly the same way as pure zinc. The aesthetic appeal of the zinc appear- ance is combined in a profile that is lighter in weight and more cost effective than using zinc, yet has an equivalent lifespan. In all other respects MicroZink performs in the same way as

RigiSystems’ conventional aluminium profiles, and so may be curved (either convex or concave) or tapered, in order to achieve the most exacting design cri- teria. In addition, MicroZink can be site rolled if required to achieve maximum flexibility for the product application.

Renson® Sonovent® is a thermally broken acoustic vent which is applicable to all types of window frames. It can be installed on glass with a thickness of 20, 24, 28 or 32 mm (other glass thickness on request) or at transom. Equipped with non combustible mineral wool as noise-damping material, this vent provides an excellent acoustic performance. Sonovent® is an ideal solution for secure ventilation

without external noise: insect proof, burglar-proof and rainproof. It can be used for new building or renovation for residential dwellings as well as hospi- tals, offices, schools and other commercial applications.

Roto has used a leading German institute specialis- ing in market psychology in order to design cus- tomer appeal into its latest window handle. The Institute of Market Psychology in Mannheim were commissioned, the aim of which was to discover what makes consumers choose one handle over another. Their feedback enabled the researchers to establish which criteria they used to assess and select window handles. The detailed results were

implemented in the creation of RotoSwing, a new family of premium handles suitable for use with Roto NT hardware on both tilt and turn windows and balcony doors.

t 01788 558600 www.roto.co.uk A MASTER CLASS IN SECONDARY GLAZING

Secondary glazing is fitted on the room side of existing windows and when fitted with an air gap of at least 100mm it will dramatically improve sound insulation. In schools and colleges it has particular value in exam rooms, music rooms and libraries and is often the only practical solution for traditional or listed buildings with preserved facades. Secondary windows can nearly halve heat loss through the glass and since it seals the whole window draughts are markedly reduced. Many schools and colleges have large window areas and sec- ondary glazing will help to conserve energy and reduce long term costs. In its most basic form secondary glazing provides a second barrier to entry but Selectaglaze’s unique “Secured by Design” accredited range provides greatly enhanced levels of protection from physical attack and blast. And their Fixed Light unit offers 30 minutes fire integrity. t 01727 837271 www.selectaglaze.co.uk
