Total Hygiene, manufacturer of the ‘wash and dry’ toilet developed specifically for disabled people- the Clos-o-Mat- and leading supplier of disabled toileting solutions, has recruited a dedicated speci- fications manager for ‘Changing places’ toilets, Lynne Smith. Lynne’s appointment reinforces Total Hygiene’s dedication to the cause, to provide toilets that are more ‘user-friendly’ for the hun- dreds of thousands of people who require the help
of at least one carer. Lynne comments, “The ‘Changing places’ package is a huge plus in the way forward to offering a far better solution in toileting within public places to the less able community…”

Urbis’ new Piano LED luminaire provides the highest levels of photometric performance and offers an excellent solution for street lighting, public spaces and parks. Its slender, attractive lines also make it ideally suited to urban settings. Uniquely, the Piano is fitted with Urbis’ new Lensoflex® system. This system is based upon the addition principle of photometric distribution. Each LED associated with a specific lens generates
the complete photometric distribution of the luminaire. The Piano is also a low maintenance solution as Urbis’ new Thermix® and LEDSafe® systems keep the luminaire cool and tightly sealed respectively. The Piano can also be upgraded so the user can take advantage of new lighting technologies.

RESTORING VICTORIAN ROMANCE IN LIVERPOOL
A Stannah Goodsmaster 500B goods lift is playing a vital role in the rebirth of the Isla Gladstone Conservatory, an idyllic Grade II Listed Victorian glass house located in the grounds of Liverpool’s Stanley Park. As part of Liverpool’s urban regeneration programme, this fine example of glass architecture is the centre piece of a £25-million project to restore all the dilapidated buildings. The Goodsmaster contributes to its 21st-century performance, distributing a whole range of deliveries between the two storeys. Available in 500kg to 1500kg capacities, the lift operates inside a rapidly erected, structure-support- ed frame, making installation swift and simple with the minimum of builders’ work. It can be installed almost anywhere in a building and does not rely on an outside structural wall for support. It also allows for flexible positioning as it is does not require significant headroom or pit depth. t 01264 332244

OPTIMISE COMPLIANCE WITH DOCUMENT M
The needs of up to 10m people in the UK may be being compromised by inat- tention to detail in specification of disabled toilet facilities- a compromise cost-effectively solved through developments at Total Hygiene. The advent of the new BS8300:2009 and its inclusion of Changing Places facilities for people with complex and multiple disabilities who require the help of up to two carers to toilet is prompting focus on the needs of disabled people when toileting, including the existing Building Regulation Approved Document M. Largely taken to be a larger cubicle with drop-down rails, a lower washbasin and emer- gency assistance alarm, the Document stresses the importance of ALSO including some means of height adjustability to the toilet seat, to enable wheel- chair users to transfer as easily as possible to the WC. Total Hygiene has intro- duced two options which aid compliance- the Aerolet toilet lift and Lima Lifter height adjustable ‘wash and dry’ toilet.
