Work is now finished on the new YMCA building in Crewe. Dan Pal (UK) supplied a vertical rain- screen system using Danpalon silver translucent panels, covering over 500m2
of the building enve-
lope. This specific panel finish was chosen to be sympathetic and blend smoothly with other alu- minium window framing, vents and inserts, whilst bringing a vibrancy to the facade. The Dan Pal (UK) rainscreen system is easy to install, very
lightweight and cost effective, whilst having outstanding robustness and relia- bility as a complete system. With panel lengths as standard to 12.0m in length, large uninterrupted façades can be very simply and effectively realised.

An innovative concrete product has achieved a Class B reaction to fire classification with Chiltern International Fire Ltd (CIFL). Concrete Cloth (CC) is a flexible, cement-impregnated fabric that hardens on hydration to form a thin, durable, waterproof and fire retardant concrete layer. ‘Concrete Cloth has a number of applications in the civil and construction sectors, including ditch lining, pipe protection, roofing, asbestos contain-
ment, flood defences and erosion control. However, we needed to carry out reaction to fire testing to be able to take the product forward for interior use where evidence of fire performance is absolutely essential.’

After extensive research and consultation with key supply partners, Comar Architectural Aluminium Systems unveil the new Comar 9P.i High Performance Framing, Windows and Door System.l A thermally efficient future-proof facade system was required, with off-site manufacture and value engineering solutions that actively seek to reduce material content. Comar 9P.i high per- formance framing offers two options of construc-
tion, ladder frame or mitre frame. 9P.i windows and 9P.i doors hang directly from the frame, reducing the need for additional outer frames, creating a truly integrated solution.

Health & safety in the workplace is sometimes regarded as an after-thought from the initial building design through to the day-to-day operations. However over 5,000 accidents involving transport in the workplace are report- ed each year, with approximately 70 fatalities, so the need to understand and improve pedestrian and vehicle segregation should be one of the top priorities for any architect at the beginning of a design project. Plastic barrier specialists, A-Safe, has revolutionised warehouse and production sites around the world with its unique plastic barrier system, and is now a becoming the preferred sup- plier to leading international companies such as Toyota. The systems provide the strength and durability of steel, with the flexibility, and reduced mainte- nance of plastic and therefore A-Safe barriers are ideal for applications such as door protectors and height restrictors. t 01422 344402

145 146 FERMACELL BOARD VERSATILITY INSTRUMENTAL
Around 3,000 sq metres of Fermacell dry lining boards has been used on a new build and refurbish- ment project at Manorfield Primary School in East London. Main contractor was Higgins Construction. John Burke, Architect and Consultant to Tower Hamlets Council, says that the versatility of Fermacell board is why the product is regularly specified by their department and includes recently completed Mowlem
Children’s Centre in Bethnal Green. “Fermacell was specified for Manorfield Primary School by our Brazilian Designer Diogo Cunha for several reasons including its acoustic properties, product robustness and the excellent hanging loads.”
