DEKS DISTRIBUTION EXPANDS

DEKS Distribution UK has moved to larger premises in Nailsea near Bristol after outgrowing its previous warehouse facility in Portbury. Since DEKS set up the UK division seven years ago the business has grown tenfold, adding more products and members of staff to meet increasing demand. The company now employs 11 staff and distributes up to 20,000 units per month from its new 16,000 square ft warehouse. “Our growth has been phe-

nomenal,” said divisional manager David Jones, “but we’ve worked hard to get to this point. All of our staff have an in-depth product knowledge and we pride ourselves on giving customers excellent customer service and technical advice.”

The Red Group has launched a new company, Red Solar Ltd, to take advantage of the expected upsurge in demand for photovoltaics (PV) trig- gered by the government's Feed-In Tariff Scheme. Red Solar aims to provide clients in the building and construction industries with complete 'turnkey' PV solutions. A typical package would cover everything from an initial feasibility study right through to design, installation and commis-

Dymond protective window films were recently used in a £300,000 contract at the St Enoch shop- ping centre in Glasgow, to protect shoppers from the risk of falling glass from the roof. The shop- ping centre is famed for its glass roof, so when the centre was refurbished recently, a solution was needed to prevent the glass from shattering and risking shoppers’ wellbeing, a constant worry with glass toughened by nickel sulphate. Dymond

Defender two-ply anti-shatter film – an adhesive-backed polymeric film – was installed on the glass units in the roof of St Enoch shopping centre, which will keep them intact should the units unexpectedly shatter.

High performance plasterboard systems from Knauf Drywall are being installed in Phase 2 of the £300 million redevelopment of schools in Bradford, following their huge success in Phase 1. With funding from the Building Schools for the Future programme, the project’s second stage includes co-location of new secondary special schools on the sites of the Grange Technology College, and at Beckfoot, Greenhead and Hanson

Schools. Co-location will mean that previously separate special schools can share some facilities and work more closely with their mainstream counter- parts. Knauf Drywall has developed a range of drywall constructions that meet acoustic requirements in line with Building Bulletin 93.
