Awards & Cheque Presentation 26-Feb-09
WHAT A BUSY DAY! O
F P
ur lunch meeting on the 26th. February was one of the busiest
I can remember for a long time .Once we had got through the normal no- tices, toasts, messages and of course a great meal ,we had what I can only describe as a ‗presentation fest‘
irstly I had the great pleasure of introducing Rtn. Colin Coe (from
Havering.East Rotary Club) who had been invited to lunch in his capacity as a trustee of First Step.
resident Raj did the honours by presenting Colin with a cheque
for £500. the other half of the proceeds of the Playathon. (See the ar- ticle Julie, Leanne and Emilie).

fter receiving the cheque Colin
spoke very briefly, but passionately about the work of First Step.
he Second presentation was very special indeed.
PP.Colin
Freeman introduced us once again to Paul Freedman, a man who has been closely connected with our club over the past year. For those who didn‘t know and those who may have forgot- ten, Paul (the marathon man) was the special guest for our Charity Walk last year and spent many hours collecting at Sainsbury‘s on our behalf. Paul also came along to help us with our Purple Pinkie campaign last month.
unstinting support for our club Paul was presented, by President Raj, with the very special Paul Harris Award. Paul then entertained us with an assortment of anecdotes and jokes in his acceptance speech.
A F
inally we had a most interesting and informative
talk from Linda Head who spoke about a charity close to or hearts – St. Francis Hospice. The hospice is very much depends on charitable donations so it was with great pride and pleasure that President Raj presented Linda with a cheque for £7,600 which was the amount raised from last year‘s walk. SVP. Brian reminded us that about a £1,000 of that was raised by Paul at Sainsbury‘s. How appropriate that Paul was present for the Presentation.
