present, explained the geographical position of the Shet- land Islands at the top of the British Isles
osemary had a beautiful story to tell and started by
displaying many photos for all to see and explained that Shetland must be pronounced in the Singular as in Shetland Po- nies, much to the amusement, comments and giggles of most Rotarians present, i.e. not the SHETLANDS

he overall im- pression that
the speaker gave of the inhabitants of the Shetland Islands were of warmth, friendliness and a tremendous, trust- worthy way of life, a life that I think we
have all since forgotten S T
he biggest impres- sion was from the
Vikings , albeit the loving caring of the people make it very hard to be- lieve that the Vikings were barbarous
conquerors that raped & pillaged!
uch a wonderful story was told that left members with an over-

here were many questions at question time. Ken‘s
question on the dialect of the lo- cals received a very detailed re- ply which led the way to many other questions, such as National Health and medical services. The
speaker relished in explaining, much to the appreciation of all

story and reinforced the wonderful friendliness of all the Islanders in that area by explaining his recent sailing adventure. After arriving in a Harbour Colin made enquiries about a hire car , but unfortunately was told that there was no car hire on the island, Colin was promptly given the car keys of a complete strangers car to drive and sight see the island
