Alan Campbell talks to Warwick Bartlett founder of Global Gaming & Betting Consultants about what the gaming world can expect in the next few years


n these uncertain times of long-term economic forecasts that seem to change on an hourly basis and penny-pinching politicians searching around for the best ways to raise funds, wouldn’t it be nice know that there was a place for the land-based and online casino industries to turn for accurate and reliable information on what the future may hold? Established over a decade ago by industry veteran

Warwick Bartlett, Global Betting And Gaming Consultants (GBGC) is just such an operation and has worked with or supplied information to over 400 clients including operators, monopolies, lotteries, suppliers, investment banks and governments.


The operation has provided services such as market research and assessments, business and facilities planning, product evaluations and due diligence alongside design, operational and corporate strategy reviews to clients around the world while also producing five reviews of the global gambling market that have been widely acknowledged as the best available in terms of detail and accuracy. The latest review, published in July, extended to over 1,450 pages and covered more than 250 individual gambling jurisdictions.


With its international focus, GBGC revealed that it is able to offer clients an additional independent


perspective on the UK, European, Australian, North American and Asian gambling markets acquired via extensive market research, projects and attendance at worldwide industry conferences.


“I founded GBGC in 1999 after the British Betting


Office Association, for which I was serving as Chairman, began receiving calls from people wanting information to get into the online gambling business,” says Bartlett.


“It was not something the members were interested in but I recognised a niche in the market and decided to move ahead with their consent.”


Although initially established in the Midlands where Bartlett had lived since moving from his birthplace in Paignton at the very tender age of one, GBGC relocated to the Isle Of Man three years ago. “The business was established in the Midlands and, with hindsight, it should have been set up in London but the upheaval at that time would have been too great,” says Bartlett.


“Three years ago, we concluded that the west was heading for economic recession so we financially re- engineered our business and relocated with no regrets.


“Sixty-five percent of GBGC’s customers are based overseas and our research centre is in Zagreb, so it
