elcome to casino life.
At a time when the
UK’s fastest growing “pastime” has been judged to be online gaming, over in the US a less upbeat picture has emerged. In Las Vegas, whilst the larger operators seem to have weathered the economic storm by introducing cost savings and restructuring long- term debt, some of the
smaller independents are feeling the pinch and two recently have gone bankrupt. To put this into perspective MGM currently have long term debt of $12 Billion whist Harrahs have $19 billion. At first glance this seems to be unworkable but in the overall scale of the operations these are commensurate figures and at least there is light at the end of the tunnel -come September and the group bookings and conferences start again. Over in Atlantic City the story is even more gloomy. The casinos there have now endured almost 2 years of declining gaming revenues and the likelihood of a sudden change in fortune is remote. Over in Macau however, the casinos are booming having seen a 70% increase in revenues compared to the previous year. This cannot be sustained forever but in the interim it is certainly helping companies who have a foot in both gaming capitals to offset the economic downturn in the US.
Back to this edition and we have more of a European focus with the opening of the Gran Casino Costa Brava; Warwick Bartlett founder and CEO of Global Betting and Gaming Consultants offers an insight into what the future holds; Luke Alvarez of Inspired Gaming sets out his company’s achievements and goals as SBG continues to expand; Finally Nick Kihn, president and CEO of Aristocrat Technologies, talks us through the benefits of Oasis 360 and how the company continues to be the largest provider of casino management software in the US. .
