Helping Us Find the Healer Within by Linda Sechrist
The smile on Dr. Carolle Jean-Mu- rat’s face, as well as the one in her voice, could easily serve as an alternative energy resource to light up any room or to brighten any woman’s life with a ray of hope. Empowered by love, this visionary doctor unifies science and spirituality in a practice that rests on the cutting edge of medicine, where no one before her has ever dared to tread. Living up to her family’s personal creed, Dr. Carolle, as she prefers to be called, understands fully that to whom much is given, much is expected. Galaxies beyond the ex- pectations that any patient has for their traditional allopathic physician, this experienced medical doctor, a board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist with more than two decades expe- rience as a holistic practitioner, is a gifted medical intuitive healer who uses her familial inheritance to diagnose and treat her patients.
Born in Haiti into a family of healers, Dr. Carolle can count shamans, midwives and healers among her closest relatives. “When I was a sick child, my grandfather helped me, and that experience sparked my desire to become a doctor,” says Dr. Carolle, who today serves as a sacred wit- ness and mirror for her patients. “My gift is that I see into a person—emotionally, physically and spiritually—and I tell them that when they are willing to heal and want to become vulnerable enough to talk openly about everything, then I can help them; but not before.” The symptoms of any health problem, cautions Dr. Car- olle, are only the tip of the iceberg. “You have to be willing to look deeply into the root cause, which is often unresolved childhood issues of low self-esteem, neglect or abuse,” she declares, adamant that this is the only way to truly heal. Although she has the gift of seeing through any façade into the heart of the matter, she still gives her patients the oppor- tunity to answer vital questions: What is happening? Why are you sick? “Women always know, but they need to be asked,” she says. “They also need to re-awaken their intuition, so that they can understand what their body is trying to tell them. It’s a necessary component of healing.” Often, the patients Dr. Carolle sees are women who look to their husbands and lovers for love and acceptance. “They

are hurt little girls, who are told that if their hair was longer or they were taller, shorter, prettier or thinner, they would be ac- cepted and loved by men who have also been abused them- selves,” advises this compassionate healer, who points out that her clients have no one to nurture them, make them feel good about themselves, or accept them for who they are. “I am the mirror that can show people what they need to address so they can be their own healer and live their lives powerfully,” explains Dr. Carolle, whose deep understanding makes her patients feel heard, recognized and understood, while creating a sense of safety. “It allows someone to look within, where the answers lie; there are no answers outside ourselves,” she says. This wise and loving physician, whose path has taken her through uncharted territory, has not always had an easy journey. In 2005, after becoming acutely disillusioned with the restrictions imposed by traditional medical protocols, such as 10-minute visits with patients, she closed her gyne- cological practice. Today, she sees patients at her Wellness and Retreat Center and spends as much time as needed with them. Visits, second opinions and consultations can last from one or two hours to an entire day. Some patients even spend several days at the center to experience more one-on-one time and enjoy her beautiful gardens, with several quaint guest cottages. Holistic practitioners are called in to give healing massage and various other treatments. A renowned expert on hormones, menopause and peri-
menopause, Dr. Carolle helps women answer the question: Is it my hormones, or something else? “It’s usually something else,” she advises, “namely, bottled-up emotions that have been pent up for many years. The connection between emo- tions and physical symptoms is undeniable.” To spread the word about her new medical paradigm that includes taking responsibility for our own health, Dr. Carolle has authored nine books and offers seminars and retreats. The underlying message of them all is, “We all have the ability to heal ourselves and to live our lives as power- fully as we want.”
