Forging a Sustainable Future
United GREEN Conference October 9
ew symposiums focus on such a lofty intention as embodied in the theme of the United GREEN Conference 2010: Forging a Sustain- able Future. Nor do others attempt to accomplish their mission by drawing upon the economic, environmental and cultural strengths of an entire com- munity. Scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., October 9, at San Diego State University, the conference seeks to fos- ter grassroots, government and business alliances to ensure a green future not only for San Diego, but for our nation and the world.
F United GREEN, a division of the
501(c)3 nonprofit Heartland Coalition, is initiating and extending discussions with community leaders, conference attend- ees, sponsors and supporters to speed the transition to a sustainable future for humanity. By sparking collaborations between key public and private entities, United GREEN aims to nurture shared leadership and real solutions to the sus- tainability challenges ahead. Working with San Diego’s many cultures—Native American, Hispanic, Chicano, Latino, Asian and African-American—Dr. Mark Hanson, conference director and presi- dent of the Heartland Coalition, finds reasons for encouragement. “We believe that this will be remembered as an unusually dynamic conference, with great presentations, panels, community forums and real- world results,” says Hanson. “Everyone is putting their differences aside and coming together to explore how we can all work together to survive, thrive and leave a healthy planet for our chil- dren. We are beginning to realize that time is short, and that we are all in this together.”
