Walkhampton Art and Craft Annual Exhibition and Sale
Thursday 2nd September - Sunday 5th September, Walkhampton Memorial Hall.
The Walkhampton Art and Craft Annual Exhibition and Sale, now in its 26th year, shows the work of professional and amateur artists and craftspeople, most of whom live locally. The exhibition will appeal to traditional and modern tastes with a fine array of works in a range of media (graphite, pastel, oil, acrylic and watercolour painting, photography, ceramic, textile and jewellery), all of which are for sale. Walkhampton designer and illustrator Alan Clarke has recently created a striking new logo to support the event. Alan’s stunning pastel, of Walkhampton Church and surrounding fields, heralds an exhibition full of colour and imagination, in which powerful portrayals of place and people are interwoven with sensitive studies of wildlife and the natural world. Alan himself is exhibiting six pastels of Dartmoor scenes. We are specially privileged to be joined this year by artists and craftspeople who will be giving demonstrations of their work, including wildlife artists Robin Armstrong and Richard Woodgate, felt maker Mary Toon, and weaver and spinner Jane Deane. We will also be holding workshops, for children aged four and above, making fabric creatures to their own designs. The ‘Creature Features’ workshops will be run by Claire Wood on Saturday afternoon and Sunday with a small charge to cover costs and materials. Claire’s involvement with the exhibition goes back to its earliest days, when, as a twelve-year old, she took a craft stall selling jewellery. Claire continued her artistic endeavours professionally, specialising in ceramic and jewellery, and now runs her own gallery in Wales. Claire is looking forward to exhibiting in Walkhampton once again and will also be bringing works by other artists from her gallery. For the duration of the exhibition (until 5pm each day), the Pantry will be open, serving coffee and cakes, delicious lunches and cream teas - all home-made. There is plenty of parking space and entry to the exhibition is free, with voluntary donations going to help the vital work of the Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team (Tavistock). Commission from sales in the exhibition supports community projects linked to Walkhampton Memorial Hall.
The exhibition is open Thursday 2nd - Saturday 4th September 10am - 7pm and Sunday 5th September 11am - 5pm. For further details, please call 01822 854038. We look forward to seeing you there!
