Tavistock Town Band (Tavistock Versatile Brass Ensemble)
Incorporating Last Night of the Proms at Tavistock Town Hall Friday 17th September
This year the annual “Proms” concert at Tavistock Town Hall is a week later than normal. It is on Friday 17th September. It will conclude this year’s fund raising effort by Tavistock Versatile Brass Ensemble (T.V.B.Es) in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
The concert will feature a wealth of local talent including Soundhouse Brass Band from Plymouth. They are now one of the best brass bands in the South West and their loud full sound will fill the hall with such Proms Concert pieces as ‘Rule Britannia’, ‘Pomp & Circumstance March No.1’, ‘Jerusalem’ and ‘Fantasy on British Sea Songs’.
This year we are pleased to welcome back local soprano Rosemary Turner to sing the role of Britannia. Local tenor’s Simon Prout and Tyrone Piper are also taking part to support the event, together with Vocal Harem and The Sultans of Sing, all fine examples of home grown Tavistock talent.
The Concert is hosted by Tavistock Versatile Brass Ensemble who will also take part. They have been working hard on new arrangements with the theme of “The Movies” by Chris Northey, they will include “633 Squadron” & “The Magnificent 7”.
The purpose of the evening is to raise money for our nominated local charity Macmillan Cancer Support. Macmillan Cancer Support works to improve the lives of people affected by cancer. They provide practical, medical, together with emotional and financial help and support and push for better cancer care.
There is nothing quite like the atmosphere of the Last Night of the Proms in Tavistock. A chance for you to wave your flags, laugh, cry, sing your heart out, whistle, clap, stamp your feet and let your hair down. Come wave a Union Jack or ever wear one. Be eccentric, be British!
