Bedford Hotel, Tavistock 7.30pm – 10pm
Tavistock Recorded Music Society aims to share the enjoyment of good music in the company of like- minded lovers of classical music. Meetings start at 7.30pm on alternate Tuesdays from September to May in the Portrait Room at the Bedford Hotel, Tavistock. Membership is open to all ages and the fee is £3 per meeting for members, visitors and non-members £4.
Paul Lindsay, Chairman of TRMS, says, “The programme for the new season contains a good mix of ‘home grown’ as well as ‘foreign’ talent. We would like to welcome some new members and if you, or someone you know, likes good classical music, but is not a member of the Society, or if you enjoy listening to Classic fm (our presentations are like Classic fm, except that we don’t have adverts every fifteen minutes!) come along to the Society meetings - the first visit is free! By increasing our membership we hope that the Society will continue to function for a good few years yet. As the first presentation of the season is down to me I thought I would take this opportunity of letting you know about it. The title ‘Music and Don Quixote’ should give you an idea of what I am about. Miguel Cervantes wrote Don Quixote while he was imprisoned in Spain at the end of the sixteenth century. Within sixty years people were writing songs about Don Quixote.
Mancha’ and a film directed by Peter Yates. I am also hoping to include some other musicians - Richard Strauss, Ludwig Minkus and Jordi Savall.”
It all promises to be quite fascinating, so if you are interested in good music and good company, make a note in your Diary - the first meeting is on 7th September 7.30- 10pm, tea/coffee and bar facilities are available during the interval.
