Tavistock Goosey Quilters


Patchwork and Quilting Exhibition, Tavistock Town Hall 9th, 10th, 11th September 2010


Tavistock Town Hall from 9th-11th September. As well as the group’s own sales table there will be three traders: Daisy Chain, Coast and Country Crafts and Fabric for Fun and Beads. There will also be a Charity Quilt Raffle in aid of Operation Sunshine and the prize is the beautiful quilt pictured. Light refreshments will also be available. Admission is £2 - children free.


The group’s name was taken from Tavistock’s Goose Fair. Membership fluctuates and is currently around 30. The group welcomes any new members who would like to join them; you do not need to be experts at Patchwork and Quilting, just to enjoy sewing and the company of like minded folk. Apart from their regular two meetings a month to which they often invite well known speakers, the group hold Workshops at regular intervals. Perched above the River Tamar, the Old Chapel, Calstock, once a Methodist place of worship, is now a community arts centre run by Calstock Arts.


Throughout August and September, Calstock Arts, in collaboration with the AONB Office, will host an exhibition on the life of artist JMW Turner, who was inspired by the beauty of the Tamar Valley. To coincide with the exhibition you have the chance to share ‘Tea with Turner’ at The Old Chapel Café which will run on Sunday afternoons in August and September between 2.00 and 5.00 p.m.

Goosey Quilters was formed in June 1986 when a small group of ladies met to see whether there was enough interest in the area to start a patchwork group.
