NEWS FROM TAVISTOCK PEACE ACTION GROUP
Our next meeting will be on Tuesday 7th September at 7-30pm in the Friends’ Meeting House, Bedford Car Park, Tavistock. We welcome all who would like to join us.
At the August meeting we watched a new film, “Beating the Bomb.” It gives a useful overview of the history of nuclear weapons to the present day and is a reminder of their appalling destructive power and long lasting effects. The film shows the aftermath of the Hiroshima bombing.
Hiroshima and Nagasaki at a stall in Bedford Square. We also publicised the plans to replace the Trident system. Britain has 225 nuclear warheads, each with around eight times the power of the bomb that devastated Hiroshima.
At our meeting on 7th September there will be a talk about the “Justice Olives” project. This represents a Palestinian-Israeli women’s co- operative, whose activities include the production of olive oil. At a later date we hope to arrange a public meeting about the current plight of the Palestinians.

They certainly will at 9.45 a.m. on Sunday 12th September, when Tavistock Parish Church holds a very special Teddy Bear service to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the St Eustachius’ Mother and Baby Group. This will be an act of worship for everyone in the family and we hope that both young and “older” will bring their favourite teddy bears with them to enjoy a very different service to the familiar pattern at St. Eustachius’. It will be what the Church of England terms “A Service of the Word” rather than a celebration of communion. We are doing this to make the service a little shorter and so that everyone can feel included, no matter how familiar they are with church. So please come along and bring your teddy bear, or any other favourite cuddly friend, with you. There will be refreshments for teddy bear owners after the service.
