t the Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce annual general meeting held in May there were a total of 8 new Council members elected alongside our new president, Francis Martin and vice president, Mark Nodder. We have asked each of the new members to introduce themselves. Many you will already know, but for those you haven't yet met, here they are.


Ian Coulter managing partner, Tughans Ian specialises in institutional and private venture capital transactions and has worked in this arena for the past 15 years.


His clients include a number of leading local and international companies, particularly in the technology sector and he also acts as company secretary for Momentum, the Northern Ireland ICT Federation.


He is also named by Chambers UK in their 2010 Legal Guide as a leader in Corporate Finance in Northern Ireland.


More generally Ian is a Council member for the CBI and is also a leading member of Pro‑Help, the pro‑bono arm of Business in the Community.


James Devlin, head of Business for BT in Northern Ireland.


James is responsible for all of BTʼs SME and corporate customer relationships.


His team supports business customers helping them to deploy and leverage communications and IT technology solutions to address business issues and growth opportunities. In addition James is responsible for BTʼs mobile business. Previous roles and experience include: head of BTʼs technical specialist business sales team on an all island basis, sales manager SME sector, business manager Finance sector, Business manager health sector and a variety of direct selling roles.


James has worked with BT group for 30 years and is a fellow of The Institute of Sales and Marketing Management. He is a member of The Institute of Directors and has been awarded the IOD Diploma in Company Direction. James is also a board member of The Northern Ireland Assembly and Business Trust.


Patricia OʼHagan, managing director Core Systems (NI) Ltd


Since taking up the post in March 2005 Patricia has led the company through a programme of development and growth. Core Systems is now recognised


internationally as a leader in the application of biometric technology in high security environments.


The company has developed a range of innovative technology solutions for the Custodial sector, raising the standard within the industry. In April 2008 the company opened its US subsidary operating under the brand TUSA Inc. Patricia has over 12 years experience in the biometric industry and is an international speaker on Corrections Technology. She has presented at industry forums including the Correctional Technology Association (CTA), American Corrections Association (ACA), CJA (Corrections Technology Forum) the Home Office and the Inter Prison Service Security Group.


Poul Woodall, route director, Norfolkline Irish Sea Ferries


Born in Denmark in 1955, Poul had a degree from Copenhagen Business School in transport (1986). This has later been supplemented by business management courses at INSEAD (1989 & 1999) and Stanford University (2006). Poul joined the A.P.Moller‑Maersk Group ‑ of which Norfolkline is a member‑ in 1974 as a management trainee and has during his career worked in Denmark, Indonesia, England, Holland and Dubai before arriving in Belfast in the Spring of 2008.


He lives in Helens Bay with wife Charlotte and their two dogs and enjoys the golf at the local club.


Robert Cooper, chief executive officer, Harland & Wolff


Robert , 58, has steered Harland and Wolff back to profitability since he took over as Chief executive officer in February 2003. Robert joined the Company in 1983 as a trainee accountant, and after successfully completing his ICMA professional examinations he held a number of positions within the finance department.


In 1990, following the privatisation of the Harland and Wolff group of companies, he served in the position of financial director of H&W Shipbuilding and Heavy Industries Ltd until 1993 when he was appointed Group Financial Director of H&W Group PLC.


He served as deputy chief executive from mid 2002 until February 2003 when he was appointed chief executive officer.

Colin Hampsey, regional corporate affairs manager, Tesco Northern Ireland


Colin has been based in the Local Support Office in Newtownabbey since June 2006, where he headed up Tescoʼs Corporate Community Plan focusing on integrating Tesco stores more into the Communities in which they trade. Colin managed projects such as Climate &


Energy, our Green Points Carrier Bag Scheme, local education and community based projects such as Tesco for Schools & Sports. He then moved onto Corporate & Government Affairs in September 2008, a new role to the Tesco NI business, where his role involves leading and implementing community consultation on all Tesco planning applications, also liaising directly with elected representatives and government departments. This is coupled with media & PR management and government policy. Colin is married to Ann‑Marie, resides in Cookstown with a three year old daughter Méabh and a new baby son named Conall.
