The Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce welcomed Edwin Poots, minister for the Environment to an ʻin cameraʼ lunch on Wednesday 12 May 2010. The lunch, held at the Ulster Business Schoolʼs Academy Restaurant, provided 50 Chamber members with an opportunity to network and engage with the minister. Edwin Poots, who was appointed minister of the Environment on 30 June 2009, addressed attendees with his views on making government more responsive to business. Amongst the areas covered were public sector spending, liquidity, development structure and planning issues.

The Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce provided members with the opportunity to ensure that they receive the most from their Chamber membership on Thursday 22 April 2010 at the Regus Business Centre, Cromac Street, Belfast. Members were informed by NICC business development director Oonagh OʼReilly on how to avail of the free services and those that are dramatically reduced in price for chamber members. Lorraine Milne of Westfield Health also outlined the benefits of the Westfield Health which is included with Chamber membership. In light of one of the key benefits of NICC membership being member to member networking, attendees were also given the opportunity to network through structured exercises enabling them to identify business opportunities throughout the event.

Simon Miskimmin, internet business consultant at WSI commented on his first event as a Chamber member: "I would like to congratulate all your team, for organising last nightʼs event. As you know it was our first NICC networking event and I was extremely pleased in relation to the quality of the event and the opportunities that should lead from it. I have been to so many events where you are left to network on your own after the speakers have finished and it just doesnʼt work, as most people just head for the door.

NI Chamber of Commerce staff did an excellent job in interacting with the attendees, as well as getting them to interact with each other.

I am very much looking forward to the next event, if this is the quality that you commit to each time. Well done!"

The Chamber was also delighted to welcome Caitriona Ruane, minister for Education to an In Camera dinner on 1 June 2010. The dinner, held at the Europa Hotel Belfast, provided 40 members the opportunity to quiz the Minister on issues including Essential skills, STEM and the transfer test. The minister also addressed attendees with her views on education systems and the economy.

The Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce would like to thank the Bank of Scotland (Ireland) for their sponsoring and support of the In Cameraseries throughout 2010 and over the past few years. The series has included in camera's with Arlene Foster, minister for Enterprise, Trade and Investment, Sammy Wilson, minister for Finance & Personnel, Matt Baggott, chief constable, PSNI, and Bruce Robinson, head of the Northern Ireland Civil Service.
