Vodafone Visibility- secure mobile working built around you
with Pauline Quigley, head of Vodafone Northern Ireland
s mobility is revolutionising the way we work, safeguarding data in the mobile environment has never been more important. Mobile working means increased productivity, but it also means rising security threats from both malware and data loss that can have serious consequences, as recent high profile security breaches show.
A Industry Insight and facts
• By 2014 more than 70 per cent of an organisations workforce will be able to access enterprise data remotely (Marketing Daily 2008).
• Research from Symantec Research (2009) states that Smartphone users are 15 times more likely to lose their device than laptop users.
• It's estimated that for each and every lost customer record it costs a UK company an average of £64, with the average cost of a data breach standing at £1.68 million.* Negligence is often seen as the main culprit for breaches.
With more stringent regulations on data protection and regulatory bodies gaining more power, organisations must be able to demonstrate their abilities to safeguard and oversee sensitive data at all times, whilst in the office and out on the move.
Vodafone Visibility Vodafone Visibility has been developed in response to this crucial business need.
This new service has been developed by Vodafone from the successful
Vodafone Secure Remote Access service and combines Vodafone's mobile broadband with connectivity, security and inventory reporting. "Vodafone Visibility enhances the security of a company's communication devices", says Pauline Quigley, Head of Vodafone Northern Ireland. "With the huge expansion in mobile working it's important that IT teams can have a view of all mobile and fixed devices and connections to company networks, to make sure they are authenticated, secure and comply with all the company's regulations. With Vodafone Visibilty they can."
Ensuring that all employees stick to company policy when using mobile devices, laptops and PCs will reduce the risk of data breaches, should a laptop or other device be lost or stolen. "Organisations use Vodafone's mobile broadband network because it's fast, reliable and has great coverage", continues Pauline. "Now, with Vodafone Visibility we're putting customersʼ IT security, reporting and mobile broadband service at the heart of a complete, flexible working solution that is safe, secure and will help any organisation to keep a tight control on costs.” Once installed, Vodafone Visibility will report back to a central location allowing any IT Administrator to see up to date information on any of the laptops and office based computers and also allow management to:
* monitor which networks are being used and control costs accordingly,
* monitor the software and hardware status on the devices and manage applications and associated costs, * check system vulnerabilities and ensure security applications are installed and running as they should be.
Features and benefits Connectivity reporting
Being able to monitor and report on any individual userʼs internet connection is a fundamental function of Vodafone Visibility and this will show when, where and how the user connected, their duration online and how much data was transferred.
Inventory reporting
Inventory reporting and monitoring is a crucial part of system administration which helps ensure user productivity and keep security threats from unauthorised software to a minimum. Vodafone Visibility also keeps track of which hardware has been issued to a user and provides full specification information as well as a detailed view on all software that has been installed on the machine.
Patch assessment Vodafone Visibility gathers and presents up to date information on the patch level of all devices with corporate assets installed, not just the machines that are regularly in the office. This information can be invaluable when trying to assess the vulnerability of machines often connected to the most dangerous networks.
Security reporting Vodafone Visibility provides a quick overview as well as detailed reports on all of the security software installed across the user base. Completely vendor neutral, it will show who is running Anti‑Virus, Full Disk Encryption and Personal Firewalls, plus what state they are in and when they were last updated. As well as being able to use this to close security holes before a breach happens, it is also exceptionally useful when an incident has occurred. For example a regulatory body may demand to know if the users HDD was encrypted before it was stolen. Vodafone Visibility gives you that information – quickly and easily.
Quick implementation Vodafone Visibility can be implemented quickly and seamlessly in to a companyʼs environment as it requires no changes to the enterprise infrastructure. Vodafone hosts the management centre in its own Network Operations Centre, which is accessible to customers via a secure network connection. Rolling out Vodafone Visibility or extending it to new users requires nothing more than a simple installation on the userʼs computer.
For any organisation or business that signs up to a 5GB mobile broadband price plan, Vodafone Visibility is free. Customers on different price plans can add it to their existing plan.
