Motoring Suzuki SZ4- no its not

S
uzuki is a very respectable brand within the motor industry, both in motorcycles and cars. The car side of their market has really seen a boost since the inception of the Swift which is a very sought after car and comparable with the any of the super miniʼs on the market. Suzuki also make small jeep‑like vehicles. One of the best known was the “Jimmy” which may have been small, powered by a small petrol engine, bit it is as strong as an ox and as reliable as a Swiss timepiece. The latest Suzuki that came to stay for a week was the SZ4. The one I tested came with a 1600cc potent 118bhp petrol engine connected to a five–speed gearbox.
The Suzuki Sz4 sits quite high on the road and looks from the outside like an off‑roader complete with roof rails.
Once onboard, the driving position offers extremely good visibility all round. This car has a tall roof and a lot of glass, which gives a lovely airy, roomy feeling inside.
All of the instruments are simple yet made of very high quality and all make sense.
Suzuki has made this SZ4 a very practical car, as it will carry a driver and four passengers and still has loads of room to spare. There is also the option to drop the back seats and use the car as a load lugger. The 1600cc petrol engine does not disappoint either and is capable of 115mph and the 0‑60 sprint in 10 seconds.
Once you get out on the road, the first thing that strikes is how easy this Suzuki was to drive. The driving position is quite high which I liked as it gave a good view whether in town or if you were peeking over the hedges on a country road!
Despite sitting high on the road, Suzuki has tuned the suspension, so even when I found myself pushing on a bit the car handles with little body roll and gives great confidence to the driver.
The engine and gearbox work together well. The whole interior is finely built with but at the same time will withstand all the rigourous use a boisterous family could throw at it. I could also see this Suzuki sitting on a beach while its masters ride the waves.
It really is an all round gem. Not too big to be a hassle on the school run; not too small to be hassle at the weekend, and still a lot of fun on that twisting B road. It's a vehicle that covers all bases.
Add to that an economy cycle of around 45mile per gallon and you have the benefits of a motorcycle – although one it most definitely is not.
