Eco Businesses Flock to New Events Company
Vodafone launches Vodafone mobile recording
As new regulations on compliance loom,
Environment Minister Edwin Poots proves that going green neednʼt be dull as he takes a representative of the new Eco Events Company Flock for a spin on his tandem.
The Launch took place today of Northern
Irelandʼs first ever project management company dedicated to organising events in a socially and environmentally responsible way. Intriguingly named Flock, this new venture is planning to support businesses in the emerging Green sector through utilising the skills and abilities of a number of small businesses based in the successful social enterprise building, Blick Studios. Flock is the brainchild of Studio Manager, Christine James, who formed a strategic alliance with established Green event consultant Aly McElroy Jones. Speaking at the unveiling of their new website, Christine said, “Blick Studios is the home to a number of small creative businesses from web design, to TV production to marketing and PR and as such we have a fantastic skill base to call upon to ensure that Flock will be able to deal with a vast array of jobs, all of which we will deliver in an efficient and environmentally friendly way.” The environmental theme reflects the emergence of the number of social enterprises and eco and green businesses. Aly McElroy Jones, who has been working extensively within this growing sector stated, “Flock is a company that has the protection of our environment and the development of local business at the heart of its aims and objectives. By pooling the resources available in Blick Studios we are supporting a number of small
creative businesses, actively delivering opportunities for work and networking. Together we will offer our clients ingenuity and creativity as well as the highest standards of professionalism in a way that ensures sustainability of valued resources.” And Flock has already been successful in securing some notably ʻGreenʼ clients, none more so than the CTC who have retained Flockʼs services with a view to running a ʻfashionableʼ cycling event.
“CTC is the largest cycling membership organisation in the UK and Ireland and as such we have a very strong environmental policy. We wanted to appoint a young, dynamic company who shared our vision and who had an understanding of the benefits of new technologies and Flock certainly fits the bill. This event will show cycling as an economic, environmentally‑friendly and fashionable way to travel”, stated Tom McClelland from CTC. As well as first rate event management Flock will also be able to offer its clients creative marketing and branding and highly effective PR and social media marketing in the most efficient and environmentally friendly way possible. Blick Studios is supported by the Department for Culture Arts & Leisure, through the Arts Council for Northern Irelandʼs Creative Industries Fund.

Vodafone Global Enterprise, the Vodafone business that delivers managed communication solutions and services to multinational enterprise customers, announces the launch of a new service to enable regulated financial firms to record all incoming and outgoing mobile calls and texts. The solution will significantly enhance governance, business continuity and risk‑ management processes. The launch comes as the Financial Services Authority (FSA) in the UK reviews the need to record mobile phone calls and texts made by employees of regulated companies from business devices to improve governance procedures
www.fsa.gov.uk/pubs/cp/cp10_07.pdf. The solution is called Vodafone Mobile Recording and enables regulated companies to record and archive mobile conversations, voicemails and text messages to protect against losses from disputes, support mobile‑ working practices and deliver improved compliance and risk‑management capabilities. It will be made available across Europe. Although financial companies commonly record calls on fixed lines as part of their regulatory requirements, mobile calls and texts have, until now, been exempt due to the technical complexity involved. Vodafone Mobile Recording provides a simple and cost‑effective way of recording relevant conversations, as users simply make or receive calls and send or receive text messages, in the same manner as they do today. The solution routes all inbound and outbound voice calls through the companyʼs existing in‑house voice‑recording platforms, using a client application on the userʼs handset, supported by resilient servers based on the customerʼs premises. This enables managers to search both archived fixed and mobile calls on the same system. In this way, all recorded data is retained by the company within its own secure environment to protect confidentiality as well as employeesʼ privacy. Additionally, the solution records all text‑ message communications and Vodafone will look to enable the recording of other mobile communication formats as the solution evolves. The Vodafone Mobile Recording solution is expected to help firms to more speedily resolve any disputes arising from transactions performed while using mobile communications and satisfy demands from regulators who are proposing to bring mobile communications under the same rules as fixed‑line communications.
The EUʼs Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID), which came into effect in November 2007, called for the recording of fixed‑line calls for regulated firms, in order to help detect and deter market abuse.
