Worker dead at desk for five days. From the New York Times.

Bosses of a publishing firm are trying to work out why no one noticed that one of their employees had been sitting, dead at his desk for five days before anyone noticed. George Turklebaum, 51, employed as a proof reader at a New York Firm for 30 years, had a heart attack in the open plan office he shared with 23 other workers. He quietly passed away on Monday, but nobody noticed until Saturday morning when an office cleaner asked why he was working during the weekend. His boss, Elliot Wachiaski, said, “ George was always the first person in each morning and the last to leave each night, so no one found it unusual that he was in the same position all that time and didn’t say anything. He was always absorbed in his work and kept much to himself. A post mortem examination revealed that he had been dead for five days after suffering a coronary. George was proofreading manuscripts of medical textbooks when he died. You may want to give your colleagues a nudge occasionally. When we read this article we had our suspicions about a few members of staff at the Local Herald, but we are pleased to announce that although they don’t appear to be doing much, they are still alive. The Moral of the story: Don’t work too hard - Nobody notices. anyway.

A female worker asked her boss if she could go home as she wasn’t feeling well. Since the boss himself was just recovering from illness, he wished her well and hoped it wasn’t something he had given her. “ I hope not.” she replied. “ I’ve got morning sickness.”

A Band For

Pendle At the recent CHEERS

Even if a man can hit a glass on the table four out of five times while clipping his toenails, women will never truly appreciate his skill.

local round of The National Brass Band Championships at Blackpool Winter Gardens, the Nelson & Pendle Brass Band came a very creditable 4th out of 23. They have been performing all over East Lancashire, and is a Band on the up. The problem is, the’re homeless. They need a rehearsal and storage room for 25 musicians. They are prepared to muck in with any renovation work and can pay a small rent for a new home. If you can help please contact Agnes on: 07772 840019 or Visit: www.nelsonbrass.com
