Tuff Turf is Tough To Top

Equine Tuff Turf is a revolutionary product for Ontario designed as an arena footing for equestrians. It is made by Canadian manufacturer Rubber Venture at their plant in Wallenstein, Ontario. Since 2006, Rubber Ven- ture has been creating products from rubber waste for industries such as dairy and landscaping (rubber mulch). In 2009 they ran across a rubber equine footing product while in the USA. They were inspired to expand into the equine industry themselves when they realized there was nothing like it manufactured in Ontario - and the process was a perfect fit for what they were already doing. The material used to make Equine Tuff Turf is 100% recycled tire rubber, a bi-product of the Ontario retread industry. Using castoff rubber in its production diverts tons of rubber from overfilled area landfill sites. The turf is comprised of 3/8 to 1/4 inch vulcanized rubber granules which come in 2,000 - 2,500 lb totes. Application is made easier with a drop bottom on each bag. Equine Tuff Turf is sold and delivered right from the manufcturing plant. It’s

ordered and charged by the pound plus delivery costs.

Besides wanting to buy a product that is environmentally friendly and made right here in Ontario, you might wonder why someone would decide to use granulat- ed rubber for their arena footing.

Natural Barefoot Hoof Guild is offering an intensive 5-day Barefoot Trimming Course with BFHC Specialist Kate Romanenko

Course schedule is 5 consecutive Saturdays from 9:30 am - 3:30 pm

Kate Romanenko, Nature’s Barefoot Hoofcare Specialist www.natureshoofcare.com (705) 374-5456 natureshoofcare@gmail.com

First of all, it makes sense that the end product would be as durable as the rub- ber it’s made from and the application pro- cess is designed to allow for optimum drainage and minimum dust. Equine Tuff Turf is made to be low maintenance and is said to resist freezing, even in our cold Ontario winters. The most important factor though is what they say it can do for a horse and rider. Rubber cushions the impact of every step taken and any fall that may occur. The result is expected to be fewer injuries to tendons and joints and less fatigue felt by the horses and humans who walk on it; and that could makes us all feel a little better.
