JUNE 2010 THE RIDER /47 Port Authority Named Omega Alpha Canadian Event Horse of the Month for April
Ottawa, ON—The Canadi- an Eventing Committee has named Port Authority as the Omega Alpha Canadian Event Horse of the Month for April, based on top ten performances at both the CIC 3* The Fork Horse Trials and CCI 4* Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event.
Competing in the CIC 3* The Fork Horse Trials in Norwood, NC, held April 1–4, Port Authority, a Canadian-bred 12-year-old Selle Français/Thorough-
bred gelding, owned and ridden by Stephanie Rhodes-Bosch, 21, of Sum- merland, BC, finished in eighth place against stiff competition. A dressage score of 53.9 put the pair in 22nd place. They added just 0.4 time faults on the cross country course designed by Captain Mark Phillips, and had a double clear show jumping effort to move up the leaderboard finishing on a penalty score of 54.3.
At the end of the
month, the pair then com- peted in their first interna- tional four star three day event, CCI 4* Rolex Ken- tucky Three Day Event, held April 22-25, at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, USA. Port Authority and Rhodes- Bosch sat in 15th place fol- lowing dressage with a
score of 52.0. The pair then tackled Michael Ethering- ton-Smith’s (GBR) cross country course where none of the obstacles proved to be a problem. They crossed the finish line with no jumping or time faults, moving them up the leader- board and into ninth place. Port Authority and Rhodes-
Bosch also had a fault free jumping round to finish on their dressage score for fifth place overall, only one of four riders out of 53 starters to do so. In addi- tion to their fifth place fin- ish, Port Authority was also awarded The Best Conditioned Horse Trophy, a prestigious award deter-
mined by the Ground Jury and Veterinary officials, and Rhodes-Bosch won The J.D. Reeves Perpetual Trophy, awarded to the highest-placed young rider (18-–21 years of age). She also received an HSBC Training Bursary for being the best placed, first time, 4-star competitor.
“I am thrilled with my horse’s performance at the Fork and Rolex,” said Rhodes-Bosch, who was just 16-years-old when she purchased Port Authority as a five-year-old directly from his breeder. “He has always been pretty fantas-
