Story of Thoroughbred Racehorse Now a Movie

The rags-to-riches story behind American racehorse John Henry has been turned into a documentary by Open Sky Entertainment. Entitled “John Henry: A Steel Driv- ing Racehorse,” the film chronicles the life and legacy of the horse who earned more than $6.5 million during his racing career between 1977 and 1984. A winner of 30 stakes races, he was voted Horse of the Year in both 1981 and 1984 and was even included in People Maga- zine’s Top People roundup story in 1984.

Born in 1975, John Henry retired to the Kentucky Horse Park after his racing career, where he lived for 22 years until his death in 2007. Producers Chris Duddy and Glenn Garland describe the documentary as “the great American hero rags-to-riches story with great inspiration for all generations.”
