2010 Jump Canada Young Horse Series Opens


Palgrave, Ontario –The first event of the 2010 Jump Canada Young Horse Series took place during the Cale- don National Horse Show held May 19-23 at the Cale- don Equestrian Park in Palgrave, ON.


KingRidge Stables dominated the Seven and Eight- Year-Old Division with Roberto Teran guiding Grand Finale 3E to victory. Bred in Canada by KingRidge Sta- bles, Grand Finale 3E is by Jamestown and out of a Chin Chin mare. The eight-year-old bay Canadian Sport Horse mare jumped double clear and had the fastest time in the jump-off to secure the win.


Also jumping double clear, but not quite fast enough to catch Teran and Grand Finale 3E, was Lauren Patava and her mount Sly, owned by Bonaventure Farm. Sly is a seven-year-old bay Dutch Warmblood gelding by Lureusa and out of a mare by Goodtimes. Taking home third place was Canada’s Beth Underhill aboard her own eight-year-old bay Dutch Warmblood gelding, Viggo. Also clear in both the first round and the jump-off, Viggo is by Quick Star and out of a Cantus mare.


In the Six-Year-Old Division, Erynn Ballard pilot- ed Sera to double clear rounds to secure victory for owner and breeder Braeburn Farms of Ontario. A black Canadian Warmblood mare, Sera is by Escudo and out of a Lacros mare.


3E, a bay Canadian Sport Horse mare by Double Dia- mond and out of Firefly 3E by Money Talks. The pair were also clear in the jump-off, but were not quite fast enough to catch Soleau and Itty Bitty. For third place, Teran rode Jetsetter 3E, another Canadian Sport Horse mare, to double clear rounds. Jetsetter 3E is by Polyfax and out of a Chin Chin mare.


The Four-Year-Old Division was also ruled by Canadian-bred horses, as first place went to Susan Park- er’s Beam P, who was bred by Prima Warmbloods and ridden by Natasha Smith-Avery. Beam P, a Canadian-

In second place was Christi McQuaker on Duvel, who also jumped double clear. Owned by Janette Morri- son, Duvel is a chestnut Dutch Warmblood gelding by Ovidius and out of a Naruur mare.


Canadian Olympian Beth Underhill was the final challenger in the jump-off and posted yet another clear round, but her slower time placed her third riding Hoolie Who. Owned by Iron Horse Farms, Hoolie Who is a bay Dutch Warmblood mare by Quick Star and out of a Landgraf I mare. Interestingly, Hoolie Who is a half-sis- ter to Underhill’s Seven and Eight-Year-Old Division entry, Viggo.


The Five-Year-Old Division was dominated by horses registered with the Canadian Sport Horse Associ- ation. First place went to Itty Bitty, owned and ridden by Kelly Soleau of Marlborough, CT. Itty Bitty, who was bred by Millar Brooke Farms of Perth, ON, is a Canadian Sport Horse mare by Mr. Itt and out of a Prospector’s Halo mare. Soleau rode Itty Bitty to victo- ry with a jump-off time of 31.27 seconds, the fastest time by almost a full second.


Both second and third place went to rider Roberto Teran on two horses bred and owned by KingRidge Sta- bles of King City, ON. Placing second was Just for Fun
