DRIVER PROFILES #23 Jeff Lapcevich
HOMETOWN: Grimsby, Ontario // BIRTH DATE: March 8, 1970 // SPONSOR(S) / MAKE: Tim Hortons / Springers Meats / Castrol / D&J Electric / Cathcart Trucking Chevrolet Impala SS
NOTABLE: Lapcevich competed in 10 Canadian Tire Series events in 2009, deciding not to do the western swing. He will probably duplicate that schedule this season. Jeff scored four top-10 finishes in ‘09 including a season best, runner-up result at Riverside Speedway in Nova Scotia. The biggest ad- dition to the No. 23 team this year comes in the form of ex- perienced ‘new’ Crew Chief Rob ‘Bucket’ Torrey.
QUOTABLE: “Our finishes last year didn’t show how well we ran. We were running in the top-five three times and got caught up in wrecks. Running a limited schedule, we won’t be in the points chase, so we want to win some races. We can do it, we just need to not have the bad luck.”
#27 Andrew Ranger
HOMETOWN: Roxton Pond, Quebec // BIRTH DATE: November 20, 1986 SPONSOR(S) / MAKE: Lou’s BBQ / Dodge Dealers of Quebec Dodge Avenger
NOTABLE: This former IndyCar star is the two-time and de- fending NASCAR Canadian Tire Series champion. In 2009 he scored six race wins, split evenly between oval and road courses, and finished every race in the top-10. Ranger will race the full K&N Pro East Series schedule in America as well as selected events (St-Eustache, Mosport, Toronto, Trois-Riv- ières and Montreal) with Dave Jacombs Racing this season.
QUOTABLE: “Dave (Jacombs) called me and asked me if I’d like to race with him again, and when I said ‘yes,’ he said to be ready for Mosport. I can’t be in the fight for the champi- onship, so what I want to do is just win races. If I push really hard, we can be back in the Winner’s Circle again this year.”
BY G. MACPHERSON (CAR) & NASCAR (INSET) #44 Jarrad Whissell
HOMETOWN: Calgary, Alberta // BIRTH DATE: April 15, 1975 SPONSOR(S) / MAKE: Komatsu / SMS Equipment / Wolseley Ford Fusion
NOTABLE: Whissell has a road racing background, having raced Formula 2000 and sports sedans in Western Canada. Ran four Canadian Tire Series events in 2009, all on road courses, with a top-10 finish in Montreal and an 11th in Ed- monton. Plans to compete in all five road course events on the 2010 NASCAR calendar.
QUOTABLE: “We’re playing to our strengths. We thought about doing some ovals, but with Toronto coming on board, it’s hard for us to find the time. We’re in this for fun, we like the competition and it was the next logical step for us to try. We earned a top-10 in Montreal last year and we’d like to match that, but if we can finish in the top-seven or so, that would be even better and a realistic goal for us.”
