Mount Eden Ecovillage
T
he Mount Eden Ecovillage proj- ect is part of a growing global movement for a more sustainable human culture. The Mount Eden property – 189 acres in Warren County – is located on the top of a bucolic hill in Washington Township. Initial plans are to build about 35 green residences and an organic farm. In addition, there is room on the land for recreational facilities, a retreat or educational center and future expansion. According to sources at the Global Ecovillage Network, ecovillages are communities that strive to integrate a supportive social environment with a low-im- pact way of life. To achieve this, they incorporate various aspects of ecological design, co-housing, permaculture, green building, alternative energy and more. Since 1998 ecovillages have been in- cluded on the United Nations’ Top 100 Listing of Best Practices. The goal of Mount Eden is to enrich life by building a com- munity that prioritizes supportive social structures and a healthy re- lationship with nature. Organizers are welcoming people to join the project, whether you are interested in a future residence or simply helping to realize the vision of Mount Eden. For information, visit
