features as specialist acoustic treatments, contrasting colour schemes, wheelchair access measures and induction loops, etc. Some of these features were also carried through to the Merlintop
premises so as to encourage interaction between the pupils and staff of the two schools, which, although they operate independently, now share a common main entrance, nursery entrance and play areas. The schools also now serve the community which uses facilities such as
the hydrotherapy pool, as well as holding public meetings and various functions onsite. Both buildings have been carefully designed to allow these ‘community’ facilities to be easily separated from the rest of the building outside schools hours. Along with this project Race Cottam has also completed two other schools in Bradford – Deluis SEN Primary and Chellow Heights SEN Primary – again as part of Educo’s team. The four schools were commissioned as part of an overall package under the Government’s Building Schools for the Future programme.
