Installation company Solid State has completed another prestigious cinema project, at Newbury's new Vue cinema. A wealth of life safety equipment, including a fire alarm system, was installed in record time. Key elements of the fire alarm system, including aspiration units, door retainers and beam detectors, are powered by a range of 24 V, 3 A power supplies manufactured by C-Tec. One of C-Tec's highly versatile and cost-effective four-zone NC944 call controllers has also been installed to provide the cinema’s washrooms with alarm facilities which can be used to call for emergency assistance. Michael Gallon of Vue Cinemas also paid tribute to all those involved in the construction of the cinema: “Thank you all for a fantastic cinema at Newbury. The level of finish and overall quality is of a very high standard.”

Landmark Re-Opens After Major Refurbishment

Ipswich Borough Council has embarked upon a major drive to

promote the benefits of healthy and active lifestyles, and as part of this strategy carried out a major review of its existing leisure facilities. The town’s 116 year old Fore Street Swimming Pool had been an important community amenity but visitor numbers were on the decline and the facility was in serious need of repair and modernisation to reverse this trend. With a strict 12-week programme and a £479K budget, the Council set about transforming the fortunes of the Fore Street Swimming Pool. Despite not being an architecturally listed building, Ipswich Borough Council was adamant that the improvement works must not compromise the overall integrity of the original structure, but also must enhance operational performance and wherever possible reduce the pool’s lifecycle costs.

Internal and External Improvement Work

The fast-track project focussed on both internal and external elements,

with the main contractor carrying out a range of repairs to the pool’s brick façade, carefully matching masonry elements to blend seamlessly with the existing brickwork.
