“Pictured above is Mr Ian Minto (centre) from Derian House, receiving a cheque for £875 from David Spiller President of Church & Oswaldtwistle Rotary Club, also pictured (left) is Harun Miah Chairman of the Rotary Fund raising committee. £175 was raised by Dynamite Dot’s Line-dancers who contributed monies to Rotary, which they raised at their Christmas Party held at the Poplar Club; other monies raised were as a result of the Rotary Autumn Ball, held at the Town Hall Accrington last October. The Rotary Club wishes to state how very much they appreciate the continued support they receive from the general public, for all their fund raising activities.”
Great Harwood Community Action Group (CAG)
Nicki Mullen, the Area Representative for the Charity “Support Our Soldiers” came to CAG’s February meeting and reported how the Christmas parcels from the people of Great Harwood and the neighbouring towns have been so well received by the troops in Afghanistan. On behalf of the soldiers she thanked everyone concerned in making this appeal – 520 shoe boxes of necessities and goodies had been put together by the people of this area. Special mention was also made of the enjoyment received by the soldiers from the edition of the “Best of the Local Herald”, a copy of which went into each shoe box. On the night Nicki received a cheque for £775, the money raised during the appeal, from Susan Shorrock and Alan Whalley, CAG’s current Chair and President respectively.

Hyndburn’s Walking for Health Project
Our Clayton Le Moors Walk has changed venue! The walk now starts from Sparth Manor on Sparth Road. We meet in their car park from 1.15pm every Monday, with the walk starting at 1.30pm. Our Clayton walk is one of eight walks the Stepping Out Project runs every week. The aim is to encourage people to get active through walking more. We are part of NHS East Lancashire’s Healthy Lifestyle Team. The Clayton walk splits into two so that walkers can chose the most suitable walk for them. We have a longer walk that last approx 2 hours and is about 5-6 miles in length and we have a shorter option which last approx 1 ½ hours and generally covers about 3 -4 miles. All walkers return to the Sparth Manor for a well earned brew and chat. All our walks are led by trained Volunteer Walk Leaders, giving you the opportunity to walk in your local area, with good company! We rely heavily on their support. If you are interested in leading or supporting one of our walks, working as part of a team and getting more active, becoming one of our volunteers might be right up your street! Please contact us for more information. All our walks are free, simply turn up in suitable boots and clothing for the weather. If you have any medication that you might require on the walk, please bring it with you. If you haven’t done much exercise recently and are worried about your health, please see your doctor before com- ing on our walks. For any further information contact: Stepping Our Project Tel.
