REAL ESTATE: A Peaceful Lifestyle
One year ago today I woke up at 7 am anticipating my youngest daughters excite- ment at the breakfast table when she saw the birthday gifts we had waiting for her . Brie was turning fifteen that day, sun was shining, life was good.
Suddenly things went terribly wrong. There was a message on my pager to call my sister Sandy...a family emergency it read. Sandy and her husband David were vacation- ing in Mexico with David’s siblings and their spouses. The six of them had flown out of Toronto two days earlier all looking forward to a lovely catch-up time and a sharing of their busy separate lives.
It was shocking
news...my big, strong, athletic brother in law had suffered a massive heart attack and died. He was only 52 and had always taken such good care of himself. A year has passed, a very painful year for my sister and Davids two sons. The man who loved them was a kind gentle influence in their lives and we all miss him terribly. There is always a lesson learned from every tragedy though and we as a family, have all taken the time since Davids passing to reflect upon our own lives as compared to the life David lived.
He was a simple man, a good man who helped others and gave of himself in so many ways we didn’t honestly appreciate until he was gone. He walked with God and I mean this genuinely. Our youngest nephew once asked “ Mom, does Uncle David ever get mad?”
I think country living and country people are the simple people in life. They appreciate nature , god’s artwork and see Him in the growing of their crops, the birth of their live- stock, the renewing of the ground, the grass- es, the flowers, the trees and their buds in the spring and in the glory of the big sky that sur- rounds you when you are out in the country away from the city lights and tall buildings which hide the bluest of skies and the lovely cloud formations and sunsets.
Losing David and my father in the past three years has really made me keenly aware

of what we should be doing with our lives. Spending time with our families, friends, not letting the stresses of work load us down so much that we have no joy in our lives. My partner and I finally bought out our third partner in our business this past year. It has taken us so long to decide to just end the pain and stress of having such a negative per- son in our lives. I feel so much better and find myself laughing again.
I’ve done some reflecting upon my life and what would I be remembered for if I was gone suddenly.
I’ve decided to start appreciating what a great life I have, my wonderful children, my loving husband who is always available no matter what I need.
A home in the country , living with and experiencing mother nature every day really adds to your solace and peace of being.
