President’s Message

While most people were celebrating Valentine’s Day on February 14th, more than 60 of our members were at the Holi- day Inn in Guelph to participate in our Annual General Meeting. Reining Canada had elect- ed to coordinate their own A.G.M. with our’s, so that O.R.H.A. members could get an update on what has been hap- pening with our National Affili- ate, and that proved to be very interesting.

In addition, Reining Canada provided lunch for all who attended their meeting, and this was greatly appreciated by those who participated, so I would like to thank Reining Canada President, Kim Maharaj, and her Board.

During the O.R.H.A. meeting, Chris Renny, our Fundraising Chair, conducted a draw for an O.R.H.A. lifetime membership, with $390 raised and Ann Pavlic the lucky win- ner.

Eric Mesley agreed to take on the role of Youth Advi- sor, to support and encourage our Youth Committee in their fundraising activities. And on that same note, I’d like to con- gratulate Melia Blakely on being incoming President of the Youth Committee.

Mike Munroe, a past Director, has stepped into the role of First Vice President, and Ken Van Alstine and Joanne Milton have also been acclaimed for additional two year terms as Directors.

Michelle Mahabir has generously agreed to take on the role of Recording Secretary, to relieve Rosemary Hilbert, who has done a great job during her tenure.

Thank you to all who have stepped up to do their part for the Ontario Reining Horse Association. Volunteers are the lifeblood of any organisation, and we urge each member to consider helping out in some

way - you get that much more out of your association by doing so.

For instance, scribing for a class is not only fun and easy (we can teach you in a few min- utes), but it is also very educa- tional - sit next to a judge for a while and you will soon learn what he/she looks for in a run! Or perhaps you could man the gate for an hour before or after your class. Please email me (president@orha.on.ca) if you would like to help out in some way.

I hope you are getting some winter riding in, and thinking of the upcoming show season, with its fun and cama- raderie. I look forward to see- ing you all on April 24th and 25th at the Sired Stakes’ Jordan Larson fundraising clinic and Jackpot Show.

And remember, if you ain’t slidin’, you ain’t riding.

Carol

There were 16 Ontario Reining Horse Association approved shows in 2009, with total payouts of over $116,000, and so far we have 12 shows in the works for 2010.

Interest in the sport of reining continues to grow, and our membership numbers were up slightly in 2009 over 2008, and we will be working to see that figure increase further in 2010.

I urge everyone this year to please read the Rule Book before show season starts, and also to note that entries that are not complete will NOT be accepted by the show office this year. form. In order to keep the show office running as efficiently as possible, we will be getting tough this year, so be warned! And finally, I would like to thank Mike Munroe, Jane Lyon, Lori Quarrie and Jane Grainger for working with me over the winter months to make the show computer program as user-friendly as possible. Wishing you all the best
