Quest for Gold – Ontario Athlete Assistance Program 2009-2010
ATHLETE NOMINATIONS ANNOUNCED
The Quest for Gold Program was established to provide additional sup- port to athletes from Ontario and to
increase the performance and number of Ontario athletes competing at the highest national and international lev- els, thereby contributing to the improved performance of Canada at
international competitions. are:
Specific objectives of the program
• To help athletes continue their pursuit of athletic excellence at the high- est levels of national and interna- tional competition;
• To encourage athletes to stay in Ontario to live and train; • To compensate athletes for earnings lost while training; • To enable athletes to successful- ly pursue excellence in sport while fulfilling their educational goals;
• To increase athlete access to
high performance coaching; and • To enhance training and competitive opportunities available to athletes. The OEF received a total of 14 applications for the Ontario Athlete Assistance Program (AAP) funding program for the 2010 carding cycle. Of those athletes, 9 met the criteria set out by the Selection Committee.

OEF was awarded a total of six Full Cards and four Athlete with a Dis- ability (AWAD) Cards for this year, to be split evenly between male and female athlete’s competing at a Nation- al and/or International level in the Olympic disciplines of Jumper, Dres- sage, Eventing and Para-Equestrian. A point system was used to rank each rider based on their competition results in a specific qualifying period. The nomina- tions from the OEF to the Min- istry of Health Promotion for funding are as follows:
