The 2009 Area3 Awards Ban- quet held on February 13th 2010 was a great success! Thanks to Mariposa Market for sponsoring the Hospitali- ty Suite, Justin Woodley as Master of Ceremonies and DJ, Jessica Mosley- Cairncross and Jodi Mallette for the Awards and Lisa Black and Mike Mallette for photos. Check out the website at
Area3.ca for results and photos.
The AGM was held prior to the Banquet thank you to the members who attended. Many topics were dis- cussed, new directors were appointed and Sarah Black volunteered to do our Amateur News! There are still some areas that we need volunteers
Sponsors are needed for special events such as the wine and cheese, exhibitor dinner or fun classes like the bridleless pleasure. Also as a member ask your fellow barn mates, vet or local tack and feed stores to become a sponsor. For as little as $50 they can sponsor a class, mys- tery money, or contribute to awards. Sponsors are listed on the website, included in programs and The Rider and through announcements at the shows. If everyone does their part and gets one sponsor it contributes to the success of our shows and club.

Youth Spotlight: Madeline Theriault
By: Stephanie Willsey
Madeline Theriault is 8 years old and lives in Barrie, Ontario. Madeline’s love for horses and showing comes from her Great Aunt Corey, who is also the Area 3 Promotional Club President. With her Great Aunt Corey by her side, Made- line has shown ‘Traded The Krystal’ a well seasoned show horse that goes by ‘Sydney’ to those who know and love her. Madeline has worked hard; rid- ing every chance she can, even during the cold and blustery winter months.
All of Madeline’s hard work has certainly paid off. In her first year of showing, Made- line and Sydney were Area 3’s Reserve in the Lead Line divi- sion. And although it was only her second year showing on the Quarter Horse Circuit, Madeline toted home a huge trophy from

the February banquet, as Area 3’s Small Fry Champion 2009! These days you will find Madeline at the Kelly Simpson Training Centre working along side her Great Aunt Corey and Sydney to prepare for the Area 2 Spring Kick-off at The Black’s Equine Centre. With a new out- fit for the 2010 Show Season, Madeline is very excited and working hard to prepare for both Small Fry Showmanship and Walk Trot. As for those of us who have watched and cheered for this great team- 2010 is going to be just as exciting! Madeline is currently in the 3rd Grade; and her favourite subject is art. Other than spend- ing time riding and going to school, Madeline enjoys skat- ing, swimming, and dancing. But spending time with the horses is by far Madeline’s favourite hobby!
Congratulations on a Great

President’s Message
Welcome to the Annual General Meeting. This marks the end of another great show season and they seem to go by too quickly. Area 3 continues to provide the best facilities for showing in Southern Ontario. This year will be particularly stressful on our finances. The HST will come into effect on July 1st and our expenses will increase by 8%. We have to pass this cost onto our exhibitors unfor- tunately.
will be included at Teen Ranch, Sum- merama, and Summer Circuit. For adults showing at all three shows there will be year end awards. This division is for adults who have not shown at a lope or canter before. Equitation, horsemanship and trail will be the three classes that are offered. We would like to continue with the No Bling All Breed division at Sum- mer Circuit.
If you are reading this, then you are interested in the future of this club. We need people to volunteer to help with spe- cific jobs. We are looking for trail people especially. The poles are stored at Pal- grave and need to be moved from there to Orangeville for both Spring Circuit and Summer Circuit. Someone needs to set the trail course and we need two people at the trail ring at all times while the trail classes are going on. If you know some- one who is going to be at the trail ring anyway, why not approach them and ask if they would help out? The more people we get, the less each person has to do.
On a brighter note, we are very excit- ed about our Adult Walk/trot division that
Moving to Orangeville for our August show is hopefully a good move. We can only try to make the changes nec- essary to help this show get into the black. We will try to post the jobs that we need people for on the web site. Keep looking as you may find something that you can offer to take care of.
We have, once again, made the Ontario Breeders Futurity an Area 3 pointed show. We felt it was important to support Ontario as they had made a few changes to next year that would benefit the horse show and not just cater to the futurity.
I wish all of you a happy and suc- cessful show season.
