Nominations for 2010 Inductees to the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame

The Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame is looking for nominations from the public for people or horses to be inducted into the Canadi- an Horse Racing Hall of Fame for 2010. All nominations will be considered by the Nomina- tion Committees of the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame Board of Directors for both the Thoroughbred and Standardbred industries. The following timelines have been imple- mented for the 2010 Nomination Process: • Wednesday, April 14 - Public Nominations Close

• Friday, April 23 - All Nominations Sent to Respective Nominating Committees • Friday, April 30 - Nominating Committee Meetings and Conference Calls for determining Thoroughbred and Standardbred ballots • Monday, May 3 - Thoroughbred and Standard- bred Nominees are publicly announced • Wednesday, May 5 - Courier Ballots to Elec- tion Committees

• Wednesday, May 12 - Date for return of Elec- tion Ballots to Roseanna So, scrutineer for both Thoroughbred and Standardbred Elections. • Tuesday, May 18 - Joint press release announcing Hall of Fame Inductees

A special Wine and Cheese Reception in the Hall of Fame at Woodbine from 5:30 to 6:30pm on Wednesday, June 2, will be held to introduce 2010 inductees to the media and the Associate Members of the Hall of Fame. This year’s Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Gala Fundraising Dinner will be held at the Mississauga Conven- tion Centre on Thursday, August 19. The cele- bration will begin with a cocktail reception start- ing at 5:30 pm followed by a full course dinner at 7:00 pm. The Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame is excited to announce this year’s Guest Speaker, Gemini Award Winner, stand-up Comedian Tim Steeves. Steeves, who has writ- ten comedy for This Hour Has 22 Minutes, The Rick Mercer Report and also helped create the Canadian Comedy Special “Talking To Ameri- cans”, will be sure to entertain!

The OIHA Board of Directors wishes to thank its members for participating in the recent OIHA member survey, over 2/3 of the members polled completed and returned the survey. We wanted input and we got it. It was pleasing to note that the majority of our members have the same goals and aspirations. The Directors are in the process of reviewing the suggestions made by its members as well as implementing new procedures in response to the results of the sur- vey. The results of the survey are posted in the March newsletter.

There will be a number of clinics taking place this summer including a Breed Introduc- tion Clinic in Magnetawan in May; a riding clin- ic with Kordula Reinhartz in Woodlawn in June; A Richard Thompson Clinic in Magnetawan in July; A riding clinic with Gudmar Petursson in Mallorytown in August along with a riding clin- ic with Sigrun Brynjarsdottir later in the month at the home of Ken and Jan Armstrong in Almonte, Ontario.

Kathy Whittington is busy organizing Farm Weekend visits in various locations in Ontario. Please visit our website for more information about these weekend visits which are to take place in May, July, July/August, Sept and Oct. Remember to mark your calendars for July 24th the date of our Annual Picnic at the Arm- strong’s Farm in Almonte Ontario.
