Mild Weather Helps Ottawa Gatineau Golf Expo
The annual golf exhibition that unofficially kicks off the National Capital Golf Season
took place on March 21
st
and 22
nd
and mild weather helped to keep the show floor busy
all weekend long. Show Administrator, Val Kelly of the National Golf Course Owners
Association, says their final tally put the number of attendees at over 8500 people for the
weekend at the Ottawa-Gatineau Golf Expo. She characterized the turnout as “a solid
year of attendance.”
Golf mad people from around the region flocked to the Ottawa Athletic Club, the
host site, and kept the booths bustling with activity.
Key displays included large travel sections for Ontario and Quebec, a club
demo area where manufacturers like Ping, Callaway Golf, TaylorMade, Nike Golf,
and Cleveland Golf were present, various retail outlets and a clinic stage where
CPGA Professionals conducted an array of seminars.
An exit survey showed that 34% of the show attendees were at the Expo for the
first time, a boost contrary to the notion that the popularity of consumer shows of this
kind might be waning. “What a great way to start the golf season,” said Janice
Morneau of Gatineau, one of the show’s 1
st
time attendees. “I loved the fact you
can stop by and see what all the golf courses have to offer, the resorts we might
want to visit this summer, and all the new clubs that are out there. It really gets me
excited to play this year,” she added in a quick interview with Flagstick.
Flagstick also had a busy show at their booth where they distributed their Spring
issue and had plenty of people stop by to catch up on just about everything golf related.
“It was a steady couple of days,” said Jeff Bauder, Publisher of Flagstick. “It’s
nice to see all the golfers getting excited about the season and the show is a great way
for us to tell them about all our new projects for the year. After a long winter the show
really helps kick off the Spring and gets golf on people’s minds.”
Plans for the 2010 Ottawa-Gatineau Golf Expo are already underway.
